Hadith Beginning with the Letter Lam (ل)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The one who goes out to fight has his reward, and the one who equips and sends him has his own reward as well as the reward of the one who fights."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The one who suffers seasickness at sea has the reward of one martyr, and the one who drowns has the reward of two martyrs."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The believer has six rights over the believer: to visit him when he is ill, to attend his funeral when he dies, to accept his invitation when he invites him, to greet him with salam when he meets him, to say 'Yarhamuk Allah' (May Allah have mercy on you) when he sneezes, and to be sincere towards him both in his absence and in his presence."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"For wiping over leather socks (khuffs), the traveller has three days and their nights, and the resident has one day and one night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Muslim has four rights over the Muslim: to say 'Yarhamuk Allah' (May Allah have mercy on you) when he sneezes, to accept his invitation when he invites him, to attend his funeral when he dies, and to visit him when he is ill."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"It is the right of the slave to be given food and clothing in a fitting manner, and not to be burdened with any work except what he can bear."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"It is the right of the slave to be given food and clothing, and not to be burdened with any work except what he can bear. If you give them heavy work, then help them, and do not torment the servants of Allah, who are a creation just like you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"For the Muhajirun, staying in Makkah for three days after returning from Hajj is permissible."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I did not forbid weeping; rather, I forbade two foolish and sinful sounds: a sound at a time of joy and play, to the tune of Satan's flute, and a sound at a time of calamity, in the form of scratching faces, tearing garments and the shrieking of Satan. As for tears flowing from the eyes, that is mercy."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Jews do not envy us for anything as much as they envy us for the greeting of salam and for saying Amin."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The spoils of war were not made lawful for anyone among the black-headed ones before you; they would be gathered, and fire would descend from the sky and consume them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty did not send any prophet except in the language of his people."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Nothing remains of prophethood except the things that bring glad tidings, that is, righteous dreams."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"None spoke in the cradle except three: Isa (peace be upon him). And among the Children of Israel there was a man called Jurayj. He was praying when his mother came and called him. He thought: 'Shall I answer her or continue praying?' So his mother said: 'O Allah, do not let him die until You show him the faces of prostitutes.' Jurayj was in a hermitage, and a woman tried to tempt him and spoke to him, but he refused. So she went to a shepherd and gave herself to him, and she gave birth to a boy and said: 'This is Jurayj's child.' The people came to him, broke down his hermitage, brought him down and reviled him. He performed ablution and prayed, then came to the child and asked: 'O boy, who is your father?' He said: 'The shepherd.' The people said: 'We will build your hermitage of gold.' He said: 'No, build it only of clay.' And a woman of the Children of Israel was nursing her son when a distinguished rider passed by her, and she said: 'O Allah, make my son like him.' The child left the breast, turned towards the rider and said: 'O Allah, do not make me like him.' Then he went back to nursing. Then a slave woman passed by, and the mother said: 'O Allah, do not make my son like her.' The child left the breast and said: 'O Allah, make me like her.' The mother asked: 'Why is that?' The child said: 'That rider was one of the tyrants, and as for this slave woman, people say she stole and committed adultery, yet she did none of that.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Nothing has been seen like marriage for those who love one another."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"No prophet was buried anywhere other than the place where he died."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Ibrahim (peace be upon him) told only three lies, two of them for the sake of Allah: his saying, 'I am sick,' and his saying, 'Rather, this biggest of them did it.' And one day Ibrahim and Sarah were travelling when they came upon one of the tyrants, and he was told: 'Here is a man who has with him a most beautiful woman.' He sent for Ibrahim and asked him about her, saying: 'Who is this?' He said: 'She is my sister.' Then Ibrahim came to Sarah and said: 'O Sarah, there is no believer on the face of the earth besides me and you, and this man asked me about you and I told him that you are my sister, so do not contradict me.' Then he sent for Sarah, and when she went in to him, he began to reach out his hand towards her, and he was seized. He said: 'Pray to Allah for me and I will not harm you.' Sarah prayed to Allah and he was released. Then he reached out his hand towards her a second time and was seized as before or even more severely. He said: 'Pray to Allah for me and I will not harm you.' Sarah prayed and he was released. Then he called one of his gatekeepers and said: 'You have not brought me a human being; you have brought me a devil!' Then he gave her Hajar to serve her. Sarah came to Ibrahim while he was standing in prayer, and he asked with a gesture of his hand: 'What happened?' Sarah said: 'Allah has turned the scheme of the wicked man back upon his own throat, and has given me Hajar to serve me.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The one who conveys good words between two people in order to reconcile them is not counted a liar."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"No people withhold the zakah of their wealth except that they are deprived of rain from the sky, and were it not for the animals, they would not be given rain at all."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When your brothers were martyred on the day of Uhud, Allah Almighty placed their souls in the bellies of green birds. They go to the rivers of Paradise, eat of its fruits, and settle in lamps of gold hanging in the shade of the Throne. When they found how excellent their food, their drink and their place of rest were, they said: 'If only someone would convey to our brothers on our behalf that we are alive in Paradise and are being given provision, so that they do not lose interest in jihad and do not hold back at the time of battle.' Allah Almighty said: 'I Myself will convey it to them on your behalf.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty drowned Pharaoh, he said: 'I believe that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe.' Jibril said: 'O Muhammad, if only you had seen me as I took mud from the sea and stuffed it into his mouth, fearing that mercy might reach him.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Adam (peace be upon him) died, the angels washed him with water an odd number of times and dug a niche grave (lahd) for him, and they said: 'This is the practice of Adam (peace be upon him), which will remain among his descendants.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty created Adam, He passed His hand over his back, and every soul He was to create until the Day of Resurrection fell from his back. Then He placed a gleam of light between the eyes of every human being among them, then presented them to Adam. Adam asked: 'O Lord, who are these?' He said: 'These are your descendants.' Adam saw a man among them, the light between whose eyes pleased him greatly, and he asked: 'O Lord, who is this?' He said: 'A man from your descendants, from the last of the nations, who will be called Dawud.' Adam asked: 'O Lord, how long is his life?' He said: 'Sixty years.' Adam said: 'Then add forty years to it from my life.' He said: 'Then this decision will be written and sealed, and it will not be changed.' When Adam's appointed life came to an end, the Angel of Death came. Adam said: 'Do forty years of my life not remain?' The angel said: 'Did you not give them to your son Dawud?' Adam denied it, and so his descendants learned to deny; Adam forgot, and so his descendants became forgetful; and Adam erred, and so his descendants began to err."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty created Adam and breathed the soul into him, he sneezed and said: 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah), and so he praised Allah by His permission. His Lord said to him: 'Yarhamuka Allah ya Adam' (O Adam, may Allah have mercy on you)! Go to those angels sitting in a gathering and say: 'As-salamu alaykum' (Peace be upon you).' They said: 'Wa alayka as-salamu wa rahmatullah' (And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah). Then Adam returned to his Lord, and Allah said: 'This is your greeting and the greeting of your descendants among themselves.' Then Allah Almighty, while both His hands were closed, said to Adam: 'Choose whichever you wish.' Adam said: 'I choose the right hand of my Lord, and both hands of my Lord are blessed and right.' Then Allah opened it, and in it were Adam and his descendants. Adam asked: 'O Lord, who are these?' He said: 'These are your descendants.' The life span of every human being was written between his eyes, and among them was a man who was among the most radiant of them. Adam asked: 'O Lord, who is this?' He said: 'This is your son Dawud, and I have written for him a life of forty years.' Adam said: 'O Lord, increase his life.' He said: 'That is what has been written for him.' Adam said: 'O Lord, then I have given him sixty years of my life.' He said: 'It is up to you.' Then Adam was made to dwell in Paradise for as long as Allah willed, then he was sent down from it. Adam used to keep count of his own life. Then the Angel of Death came to him, and Adam said to him: 'You have come early; a thousand years were written for me.' The angel said: 'Yes, but you gave sixty years to your son Dawud.' Adam denied it, and so his descendants learned to deny; he forgot, and so his descendants became forgetful. From that day, writing and witnesses were commanded."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty created Paradise, He said to Jibril: 'Go and look at it.' He went and looked at it, then came and said: 'O Lord, by Your might, whoever hears of it will surely wish to enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with hardships, then said: 'O Jibril, go and look at it now.' He went, looked at it, then came and said: 'O Lord, by Your might, I now fear that no one will be able to enter it.' Then, when Allah Almighty created Hell, He said: 'O Jibril, go and look at it.' He went, looked at it, then came and said: 'By Your might, whoever hears of it will not wish to enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with desires, then said: 'O Jibril, go and look at it now.' He went, looked at it, then said: 'O Lord, by Your might, I now fear that no one will escape it and that all will enter it.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty gave Adam his form in Paradise, He left him for as long as Allah willed. Iblis began to circle around him, looking at him, and when he saw that he was hollow inside, he knew that this was a creation that would not be able to control itself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When I was taken up on the Mi'raj, I saw Idris (peace be upon him) in the fourth heaven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, took me up on the Mi'raj, I passed by people who had nails of copper with which they were scratching their faces and chests. I asked: 'O Jibril, who are these?' He said: 'These are the people who eat the flesh of others and attack their honour.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty created the creation, He wrote in His Book, which is with Him above the Throne: 'Indeed, My mercy prevails over My wrath.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When I was taken on the night journey to Bayt al-Maqdis and Quraysh disbelieved me, I stood in the Hatim, and Allah Almighty displayed Bayt al-Maqdis before me, so I began telling them about its features while I was looking at it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the soul was breathed into Adam, it ran through his body and flew until it reached his head. He sneezed and said: 'Al-hamdu lillahi rabbil-alamin' (All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds). Allah Almighty said: 'Yarhamuka Allah' (May Allah have mercy on you)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You will not recite anything, in the sight of Allah, greater than 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"As long as the disbelievers are fought, emigration (hijrah) will never come to an end."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"People will keep on asking: 'This is Allah, the Creator of everything; then who created Allah?'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"This religion will always remain established, with a group of Muslims fighting for its sake, until the Hour is established."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty will never combine two swords upon this Ummah: a sword from within it and a sword from its enemy."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"No one's deeds will admit him into Paradise, not even me, unless Allah covers me with the grace of His mercy. So keep to the right path and stay close to it. And let none of you wish for death: if he is a doer of good, perhaps his good will increase, and if he is a wrongdoer, perhaps he will repent and seek Allah's pleasure."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"A man who took part in Badr and al-Hudaybiyah will never enter Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty will not leave this Ummah unable to attain His promise, even for half a day."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"A people who entrust their affairs to a woman will never prosper."
