"لم أنه عن البكاء إنما نهيت عن صوتين أحمقين فاجرين صوت عند نغمة مزمار شيطان ولعب وصوت عند مصيبة خمش وجوه وشق جيوب ورنة شيطان وإنما هذه رحمة "
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I did not forbid weeping; rather, I forbade two foolish and sinful sounds: a sound at a time of joy and play, to the tune of Satan's flute, and a sound at a time of calamity, in the form of scratching faces, tearing garments and the shrieking of Satan. As for tears flowing from the eyes, that is mercy."
