Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the surahs of seeking refuge (al-Mu'awwidhat: Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas) after every prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas), for you will never recite anything like them (for seeking refuge)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"At the time of your sleep, recite {Say: O disbelievers}, for it is a declaration of freedom (deliverance) from associating partners with Allah (shirk)." [Surah al-Kafirun: 1]

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Jibril (peace be upon him) taught me to recite the Qur'an in one harf (mode of recitation). Then I went back to him, and I kept asking him for more and he kept giving me more, until it reached seven ahruf (modes of recitation)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an in seven ahruf (modes); whichever of them you recite in, you will be correct. And do not dispute about it, for disputing about it is disbelief (kufr)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an, for you will be rewarded for it. Indeed, I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter; rather, for Alif there are ten good deeds, for Lam ten and for Mim ten, so altogether that makes thirty good deeds."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for those who recite it. Recite the two radiant surahs, Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection these two will come as though they were two clouds, or two canopies, or two flocks of birds with outspread wings, pleading on behalf of those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqarah, for reciting it is a source of blessing and abandoning it is a source of regret, and the sorcerers cannot withstand it (its power)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep reciting the Qur'an as long as your hearts are attentive and united upon it; and when you begin to differ over it (its meanings or its recitation), then stand up (that is, stop the recitation)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an and seek only the pleasure of Allah Almighty through it, before there come people who will straighten it as an arrow is straightened (that is, they will polish its outward words); they will seek its worldly reward (praise, acclaim or money) in haste and will not defer it for the Hereafter."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an and act upon it; do not turn away from it, do not go to extremes (exceed the bounds) in it, do not make it a means of eating (earning a livelihood), and do not seek to amass much worldly wealth through it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite the Qur'an and ask Allah Almighty through it, before there comes a people who will recite the Qur'an and then ask people (for worldly wealth) through it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite Surah al-Baqarah in your houses, for Satan does not enter a house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite (the Qur'an) just as you have been taught, for what destroyed those before you was nothing but their differing with their own prophets."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite these two verses at the end of Surah al-Baqarah, for my Lord granted me both of these verses from beneath the Throne."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Lord Almighty is closest to His servant in the last part of the night; so if you are able to be among those who remember Allah at that hour, then be so."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The servant is closest to Allah when he is in the state of prostration."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The servant is closest to his Lord when he is in prostration, so supplicate abundantly (in prostration)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the Day of Resurrection, those of you who will sit closest to me will be those of you who are best in character."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Leave the birds in their nests (that is, do not make them fly away in order to draw omens from them)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Divide the wealth (of the deceased) among those entitled to fixed shares according to the Book of Allah; then whatever remains after the fixed shares belongs to the nearest male relative ('asabah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Reduce your belching (that is, do not eat until you are overfull), for those who eat their fill the most in this world will be the hungriest in the Hereafter."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Pay the debt owed to Allah (that is, vows, fasts, Hajj and the like), for Allah is most deserving that His due be fulfilled."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Cut off the hand for (the theft of) a quarter of a dinar, and do not cut it off for what is of lesser value than that."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Very few people of my Ummah will reach the age of seventy."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Those in my Ummah who reach the age of seventy will be very few."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When people have gone to sleep (and the stillness of night has set in), reduce your going out, for at that time Allah Almighty has many creatures which He spreads out over the earth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Pardon the slips of noble and honourable people, except for those sins for which a (legal) hadd punishment is prescribed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Perform the bowing (ruku') and prostration fully (in accordance with the Sunnah). By Allah! When you bow and when you prostrate, I see you even from behind my back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep your rows straight, for you form rows like the rows of the angels. Keep your shoulders level, fill the gaps, be gentle with the hands of your brothers, and do not leave gaps for Satan. Whoever joins a row, Allah Almighty will join him, and whoever breaks a row, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will cut him off."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep your rows straight in prayer, for keeping the row straight is part of the beauty and perfection of prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Establish prayer, give zakah, perform Hajj and Umrah, and remain firm (in the religion); your affairs too will be set right and made firm."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Enforce the prescribed punishments (hudud) of Allah Almighty upon those far and near (that is, strangers and your own), and let not the blame of any blamer ever hold you back in the matter of Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Straighten your rows. By Allah! You will certainly keep your rows straight, or else Allah Almighty will put discord (and division) between your hearts."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep your rows straight, lest the devils slip in among you like the young of the hadhaf." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what are the young of the hadhaf?" It was said: "They are black, hairless goats found in the land of Yemen."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep your rows straight and stand close together, for I see you even from behind my back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep your rows straight and stand close together. By the One in whose Hand is my soul! I see the devils slipping in between your rows as though they were dust-coloured goats."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The greatest of the major sins are: associating partners with Allah, killing a (innocent) soul, disobedience to parents, and false testimony."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Write! By the One in whose Hand is my soul, nothing comes out of it (this tongue) except the truth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Use ithmid (antimony kohl), for it sharpens the eyesight and makes the eyelashes grow."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Supplicate abundantly for well-being (safety and protection)."
