Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him), He struck his right shoulder and brought out his offspring, white in colour like tiny ants; then He struck his left shoulder and brought out his offspring, black in colour, who were like charcoal. Then Allah Almighty said about those on the right side: 'These will go to Paradise, and I do not care.' And about those who were in the left palm He said: 'These will go to Hell, and I do not care.'"
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Abu Nadrah relates: One of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who was called Abu Abdullah, was visited by his students who came to see him during his illness, and he was weeping. The people asked him: "Why are you weeping? Did not the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to you: 'Keep your moustache trimmed, then keep it that way until you come to meet me'?" That man replied: "Yes, but I also heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Indeed Allah Almighty took some people in His right hand and other people in the other hand, and said: "These are for this (that is, Paradise), and these are for that (that is, Hell), and I do not care."' (Then that Companion said:) I do not know in which of the two handfuls I was."
