Sayyiduna Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, do we begin our deeds anew, or are they according to a decree already settled?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah Almighty brought out the offspring of Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) from his back, then made them bear witness about themselves, then placed them in His two hands (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are:) placed them on His palm, and said: 'These people will go to Paradise and these (others) will go to Hell.' As for the people of Paradise, the deeds of the people of Paradise will be made easy for them; and as for the people of Hell, the deeds of the people of Hell will be made easy for them."
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, who is da'if (weak), but his hadith is graded hasan (good) due to the abundance of supporting narrations (shawahid), and the chain of al-Tabarani is hasan (good).
