Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The people of this tribe of Quraysh will continue to remain in a state of security until they are turned away from their religion by those who are our equal kin." The narrator says: A man from Quraysh stood up before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, will I go to Paradise or will I go to Hell?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will go to Paradise." The narrator says: Then another man stood up before him and said: "Will I go to Paradise or will I go to Hell?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will go to Hell." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As long as I do not tell you something, you too remain silent towards me. Were it not for the fear that you would stop burying one another, I would tell you about those leading people of yours who are among the people of Hell, so that you would recognise them at the time of death. And if I am commanded to do so, I will do it."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is a mudallis; the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
