Book of Divine Decree
بَابٌ فِيمَا سَبَقَ مِنَ اللَّهِ - سُبْحَانَهُ - فِي عِبَادِهِ وَبَيَانِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَأَهْلِ النَّارِ .
What Allah has decreed beforehand for His servants, and the people of Paradise and the people of the Fire

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - خَلَقَ آدَمَ ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الْخَلْقَ مِنْ ظَهْرِهِ ، فَقَالَ : هَؤُلَاءِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَلَا أُبَالِي ، وَهَؤُلَاءِ فِي النَّارِ وَلَا أُبَالِي " ، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَعَلَى مَاذَا نَعْمَلُ ؟ قَالَ : " عَلَى مَوَاقِعِ الْقَدَرِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Qatadah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah Almighty created Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him), then took the creation (that is, mankind) from his back and said: 'These will go to Paradise, and I do not care; and these (others) will go to Hell, and I do not care.'" A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, then on what basis should we act?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Act) in accordance with the way the decree (of destiny) falls."
