Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar states: Apart from Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), the mother of the sons and all the daughters of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), who in the time of Jahiliyyah was called al-Tahirah, (her lineage being Khadijah bint Khuwaylid) bin Asad bin Abd al-Uzza bin Qusayy. Her mother's name was Fatimah bint Za'idah bin Jundub; this Jundub is al-Asamm bin Hujr bin Abd Ma'is bin Amir bin Lu'ayy. The name of Fatimah bint Za'idah's mother was Halah bint Abd Manaf bin al-Harith bin Munqidh bin Amr bin Ma'is bin Amir bin Lu'ayy, and that lady's mother was al-Ariqah, whose actual name was Qilabah; she was the daughter of Sa'd bin Sahl bin Amr bin Husays bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy. Hibban bin Abd Manaf was the full brother of this lady Halah. He is the man who shot an arrow at Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) at the Battle of the Trench and said: "Take that, and I am Ibn al-Ariqah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty make your face sweat in the Fire." That arrow struck the vein of Sayyiduna Sa'd's arm (may Allah be pleased with him), and because of it he was martyred. Before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her) had married Atiq bin A'idh bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Makhzum, and she bore him a son, Hind bin Atiq. After that, Abu Halah Malik bin Nabbash bin Zurarah bin Waqdan bin Habib bin Salamah bin Adi married her; he belonged to Banu Asad bin Amr bin Tamim and was an ally of Banu Abd al-Dar bin Qusayy. Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) bore him his sons Hind and Halah. So Hind bin Atiq bin A'idh, and Hind and Halah, the two sons of Abu Halah Malik bin Nabbash bin Zurarah, are the siblings, through their mother Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), of the children of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

So her father married her to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) perfumed him and gave him a hullah (a robe) to wear; that is how they used to treat fathers. When the man's intoxication wore off, he saw that he was perfumed and had a robe on his body. He said: "What is the matter? Why is this?" Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) told him: "You have married me to Muhammad bin Abdullah." Her father said: "Would I marry (my daughter) to the orphan raised by Abu Talib? No! It is reported about Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever he heard what people said about the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) marriage to Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), he would say: I know more than anyone about the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) marriage to this lady. In the time of Jahiliyyah I was a close companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One day I was going along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when we passed by the sister of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was in a leather tent of hers. She called me, and I went over to her while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped there. That lady said: "Is your companion (that is, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) interested in marrying Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her)?" I told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he said: "Yes, by my life." I went back to that lady and told her what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. That lady said: "Come to us tomorrow morning." The next day we went to those people and found that they had slaughtered a cow, had dressed Sayyidah Khadijah's (may Allah be pleased with her) father in a robe and had set up a tent there. I spoke with the brother of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), and her brother spoke with her father. I told him about the Messenger of Allah and his standing, and that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had asked that he marry Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) to him. So they married him to her. Those people had food prepared from the cow and we ate from it. Then Sayyidah Khadijah's (may Allah be pleased with her) father went to sleep. When he woke up, he asked: "Where has this robe come from, why has this tent been set up, and what is this food for?" That daughter of his who had spoken with Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) told him: "This robe was put on you by Muhammad bin Abdullah, your son-in-law, and this cow he gave you as a gift; we slaughtered it when you married Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) to him." That man denied that he had arranged this marriage. He went out from there and came to the Hatim. When Banu Hashim came, the man asked: "Where is that man of yours about whom you claim that I married him?" When the man saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him, the man said: "If I have already married him, fine; otherwise I marry him now."

Hadith Referenceمجمع الزوائد ومنبع الفوائد / كتاب المناقب / 15265
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), or another man from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to graze goats at first; then he left grazing goats and began working with camels. He did this together with a partner of his. Then the two of them began working for the sister of Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her). When they had completed their trading journey, some payment remained owed to them by that lady. The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) partner would go to those people and demand it, and he would say to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Come along." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "You go, for I feel shy." One day, when that man went to those people to demand payment, that lady said: "Where is Muhammad?" The man said: "I told him (to come too), but he says that he feels shy." That lady said: "I have never seen a man more modest than him, nor more chaste, nor this, nor that." This settled in the heart of that lady's sister, Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Come to my father and propose marriage to me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your father is a man of great wealth; he will not do it." She said: "Go, meet him and speak with him; I will take care of it. Go to him when he is intoxicated." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did just that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to him, and that man married him (to her). When morning came and he sat in the gathering, it was said to him: "You did well to marry (Sayyiduna) Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." He asked: "Did I do that?" The people said: "Yes." So the man got up, came to Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "People are saying that I have married (you to) Muhammad." She replied: "Yes. Now do not make your judgement look foolish, for (Sayyiduna) Muhammad is a man of such-and-such qualities." Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) kept persuading him until the man was content. Then she sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), sent him two uqiyahs of silver or gold, and said: "Buy a robe with it and give that robe to me as a gift, and buy a ram, and do such-and-such." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did just that.
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it. The narrators of al-Tabarani are the narrators of the Sahih except Abu Khalid al-Walibi, and he is thiqah (trustworthy). The narrators of al-Bazzar are likewise, except that his teacher Ahmad bin Yahya al-Sufi is thiqah (trustworthy) but is not one of the narrators of the Sahih. However, he recorded these words in his narration: Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Go to him in such a way that there is no compulsion"; he reported this word in place of the word "intoxicated". And about the robe he said: "Give this robe to him as a gift," that is, he did not say, "Give it to me as a gift."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The first thing I came to know about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is this: I came to Makkah with some of my paternal uncles, and we were directed to Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him). We reached him while he was sitting by Zamzam, and we sat down with him. While we were with him, a man came from the direction of the Safa gate. His complexion was fair with a reddish tinge; his hair was long and curly, reaching the edges of his ears; he had a high-bridged nose; his front teeth were gleaming; the white and black of his eyes were bright; his beard was thick; there was a fine line of hair on his chest; his palms and feet were full-fleshed. He wore two white garments, and it seemed as though he were the full moon on the fourteenth night. On his right walked a youth whose beard had not yet grown, with a handsome face, close to puberty. Behind them came a woman who had concealed her beauty under covering. These people came to the Black Stone. He touched it, then that boy touched it, then that woman touched it. Then they went round the House seven times, the boy and the woman circling with that man. Whenever he touched the Corner, he would raise both hands and say the takbir. Then, when he had touched the Corner, he raised both hands and said the takbir. The boy stood on his right, raised both hands and said the takbir. The woman stood behind the two of them; she too raised both hands and said the takbir. They stood for a long time, then went into ruku' (bowing) and remained in ruku' for a long time. Then they raised their heads from ruku' and stood; he remained standing upright. Then they went into prostration, and the boy and the woman also went into prostration with him; they kept doing just as that man did, both of them following him. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We had seen something we had never seen in Makkah before, and it seemed very strange to us. We turned to Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu al-Fadl! We did not know of this religion being among you here in Makkah before. Is this something new that has come?" He said: "Yes, by Allah! Do you not know them?" We replied: "No." He said: "This is our nephew Muhammad bin Abdullah, that boy is Ali bin Abi Talib, and that woman is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. By Allah! There is no one on the face of the earth who worships Allah according to this religion except these three people."

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to mention Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) often. I said: "Why is it that you keep mentioning Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) so often, when Allah Almighty has given you other wives in place of that old woman with red lips, and a long time has passed since that woman died?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry; I had never seen him so angry. He said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty granted her from me what He has not granted any of you." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Forgive me. By Allah! After this day you will not hear me mention Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) in any way that you dislike."
