Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, his wife said: "O Uthman bin Maz'un, congratulations to you on Paradise!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at that woman in anger and said: "How do you know?" The woman said: "O Messenger of Allah! He was your horseman and he was your companion." Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand, and I went with him to his son, Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), who was breathing his last. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took him and placed him in his lap until his soul departed. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put him down and began to weep. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you weeping, while you forbid weeping?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have not been forbidden from weeping; rather, I have been forbidden from two foolish and wicked sounds: the sound made at a time of blessing, in the form of amusement, play and the flutes of Satan; and the sound made at a time of calamity, in the form of slapping faces and tearing the fronts of garments. This (that is, mere weeping) is mercy, and whoever does not show mercy is not shown mercy. O Ibrahim, were it not a true promise and a true word, and that the last of us will soon join the first, we would have grieved for you with a grief more intense than this. O Ibrahim, we are grieved for you. The eye weeps and the heart grieves, but we will not say anything that angers the Lord."
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, and he has been criticised.

By the One who sent you with the truth, in the time of Ignorance I buried twelve of my children, all of them older than him, and I buried all of them alive in the ground." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What can be done if mercy has departed from you? The heart grieves and the eye weeps, and we do not say anything that angers the Lord. We are grieved for Ibrahim."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him a message that her daughter was about to die. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the messenger: "Tell her: whatever Allah Almighty takes back belongs to Him, and whatever He gives also belongs to Him." That daughter sent him a message a second time, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing again. She sent him a message a third time, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to her along with some of his Companions. She held the little girl out towards him, and the girl's breath was rattling in her chest. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was moved with tenderness for her and tears flowed from his eyes. When tears flowed from his eyes, some of his Companions who were looking at him were surprised. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What are you looking at? This is the mercy of Allah Almighty, which He places wherever He wills, and Allah Almighty shows mercy to those of His servants who are merciful."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, except that he related these words: "Sayyidah Umamah bint Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with her) was near her final moments, so Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), sent him a message." Its chain contains a narrator, al-Walid bin Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf; I have not found anyone mentioning him.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the messenger): "Go back; whatever He takes back belongs to Him, and whatever He lets remain also belongs to Him, and everyone has a fixed term." When the boy's time drew near, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Get up!" When he sat down, he began reciting this verse: "Why then, when it (the soul) reaches the throat, and you are at that moment looking on". Until the boy passed away, and tears flowed from the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah!
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Sayyiduna Utbah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep. People said: "You are weeping?" He said: "Yes. He is my full brother, he was my companion with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he is the dearest person to me, except that the case of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is different (that is, I love him more)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. In al-Mu'jam al-Kabir he recorded a similar narration and added these words: "Even so, I would not like to have died before him, because that he should die and I hope for reward through him is dearer to me than that I should die and he hope for reward through me." The narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

I said: "Stir him, stir him, whose tears cannot be concealed; in the end, one is buried once." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not say this! Rather, recite: 'And the stupor of death has come with the truth; that is what you used to flee from.'"
