Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the condition of a son of Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) became grave, she sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) calling him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the messenger): "Go back; whatever He takes back belongs to Him, and whatever He lets remain also belongs to Him, and everyone has a fixed term." When the boy's time drew near, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Get up!" When he sat down, he began reciting this verse: "Why then, when it (the soul) reaches the throat, and you are at that moment looking on". Until the boy passed away, and tears flowed from the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you weeping while you forbid weeping?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is mercy, and Allah Almighty shows mercy to those of His servants who are merciful."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Musa al-Makki; he has been criticised, and he has also been declared trustworthy.
