Salim Abu al-Nadr narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was dying. On the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was covered with a cloth. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was staying with a woman of the Ansar who was called Umm Mu'adh. That woman narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained bent over him for a long time, and his Companions were with him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved back and began to weep. When he wept, the people of the household also began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu al-Sa'ib! May Allah Almighty have mercy on you." The narrator says: Al-Sa'ib had taken part in the Battle of Badr with him. The narrator says: Umm Mu'adh said: "O Abu al-Sa'ib, congratulations to you on Paradise!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Mu'adh, how do you know? As for him, certainty (death) has come to him, and we know nothing but good." Sayyidah Umm Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "No, by Allah, after him I will never say this about anyone."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir.
