Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, his wife said: "O Uthman bin Maz'un, congratulations to you on Paradise!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at that woman in anger and said: "How do you know?" The woman said: "O Messenger of Allah! He was your horseman and he was your companion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the Messenger of Allah, yet I do not know on my own what will be done with me." So the people became worried about Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (that is, addressing her body): "Join our best predecessor, Uthman bin Maz'un." The women began to weep. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted to strike them with a stick, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his hand and said: "Leave it, O Umar." Then he said: "Weep, but beware of making noises like Satan." Then he said: "Whatever comes from the heart and the eye is from Allah Almighty and comes from mercy, and whatever comes from the hand and the tongue is from Satan."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Zayd; he has been criticised, and he has also been declared trustworthy. In one narration these words are added: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down at the edge of the grave, and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) was weeping at his side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began wiping (the tears of) Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) with his garment, out of mercy for her ((he (peace and blessings be upon him)) did so).
