Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the son of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while tears were flowing from the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Are you weeping over this child? By the One who sent you with the truth, in the time of Ignorance I buried twelve of my children, all of them older than him, and I buried all of them alive in the ground." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What can be done if mercy has departed from you? The heart grieves and the eye weeps, and we do not say anything that angers the Lord. We are grieved for Ibrahim."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, and he is da'if (weak).
