Sayyiduna al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering the sermon; he said: "I warn you of the Fire, I warn you of the Fire," to the extent that a man who was in the market heard it while I was standing at this place of mine. The narrator says: Until the sheet that was on his shoulder fell down at his feet. In one narration the wording is: The people of the market heard his voice while he was on the minbar.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna al-Zubayr, narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would deliver sermons to us and admonish us, until the effect of it could be seen on his face; it seemed as if he were warning a people who would face battle the next morning. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had met Sayyiduna Jibril a short while before, he did not laugh until he (Jibril) had ascended.
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Awsat recorded something similar; Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it from Sayyiduna al-Zubayr alone. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and called out loudly three times, saying: "O people, do you know what the likeness of me and of you is? (Our likeness) is like a people who fear that an enemy will come upon them, so they send a man to keep watch for them. While he is doing so, he sees the enemy and comes to warn them. He fears that the enemy will reach him before he can warn his people, so he waves his garment, saying: 'O people, (danger) has come upon you! O people, it has come upon you!'" He said this three times.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Other hadiths on this subject will come in the chapter on admonitions, if Allah wills.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Dimam bin Tha'labah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), shall I not treat you with ruqyah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise belongs exclusively to Allah Almighty. We praise Him and seek His help, and we seek refuge with Allah Almighty from the evil of our own selves and from the evils of our deeds. Whomever Allah Almighty guides, none can lead him astray; and whomever He leaves astray, none can guide him. And I bear witness that there is no deity besides Allah Almighty, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the hadith, which will come in full in the chapter on virtues, if Allah wills. There is also a hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the incident of Dimad, which is recorded in the Sahih; but here the man's name is mentioned with "m", that is, Dimam.

Nu'aym bin Mahhah narrates: These words were in the sermon of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr: "Do you not know that morning and evening you are advancing toward an appointed term? Whoever among you is able to keep working for Allah Almighty until the final moment should do so; and you cannot reach that goal except with the help of Allah Almighty. Some people have set their hopes for others, and He has forbidden you from becoming like them. And do not become like those who forgot Allah Almighty. Where are those brothers of yours whom you knew? They have gone on to what they sent ahead, and now misery or felicity has been settled for them. Where are the rulers of former times, who built great cities and fortified them with walls? They are all beneath rocks and beneath wells. This is the Book of Allah Almighty, whose wonders will never come to an end, so take light from it for the day of darkness, and seek clarity through its standing and its exposition. Indeed, Allah Almighty praised Sayyiduna Zakariyya (peace be upon him) and his household, saying: 'They used to hasten to good deeds and call upon Us in hope and in fear, and they were humbly submissive to Us.' There is no good in any word by which the pleasure of Allah Almighty is not intended; there is no good in any wealth that is not spent in the path of Allah Almighty; there is no good in a person whose forbearance does not prevail over his ignorance; and there is no good in a person who fears the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah Almighty."

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to come every Thursday and stand up; he would not sit during it. He would say: "Do not put people to trial, for among the people are the weak, the elderly and those with needs. Let your hopes not become long, and let your desires not make you heedless, for whatever is coming is near, and what is far is that which will not come. Among the worst of people are those who are idle by day and carcasses by night."

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he sat down he would say: "You are in a state in which the night and day are passing, with lifespans that will come to an end after a set term, and deeds that are being preserved. Death will come suddenly. Whoever has sown good will soon reap what he longs for, and whoever has sown evil will soon reap it in regret. Every sower will get what he has sown. The slow one cannot get ahead with respect to his share, and the greedy one cannot, through his greed, attain what has not been decreed for him. Whoever is given good, it is Allah Almighty who has given it to him; and whoever is protected from evil, it is Allah Almighty who has protected him. The God-fearing are leaders, the jurists are guides, and sitting with them brings an increase (in knowledge)."
