Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna al-Zubayr, narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would deliver sermons to us and admonish us, until the effect of it could be seen on his face; it seemed as if he were warning a people who would face battle the next morning. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had met Sayyiduna Jibril a short while before, he did not laugh until he (Jibril) had ascended.
Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Awsat recorded something similar; Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it from Sayyiduna al-Zubayr alone. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
