Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever catches one rak'ah of Jumu'ah has caught (the Friday prayer), except that he will make up the rak'ah he missed." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Ibn Majah recorded this narration, but he did not record these words: "except that he will make up the rak'ah he missed."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Sulayman al-Dammas, whom Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned without mentioning any criticism or commendation of him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book al-Thiqat.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whoever misses the second rak'ah as well should pray four rak'ahs. Ma'mar narrates: Qatadah says: He should pray four rak'ahs. It was said to Qatadah: Once Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived while the people were sitting at the end of the prayer, and he said to his companions: "Sit down! If Allah wills, you have caught the prayer." Qatadah said: He said that (meaning): you have attained the reward.
