It is reported about Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he missed Jumu'ah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to give one dinar in charity.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; he says: This is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) only with this chain, and the well-known version is that it is a hadith of Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) contains a narrator, Sa'id bin Muhammad bin Ayyub, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Harithah bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of you acquires grazing animals, and then if he attends the congregational prayer, looking after those animals becomes difficult for him. So he thinks: I should look for a place for these animals of mine where there is more pasture. Then he moves there and attends only the Friday prayer. Then looking after the animals becomes difficult for him, so he says: I should look for a place for these animals of mine that is even fuller than this. So he moves there, and then he attends neither Jumu'ah nor the congregation (that is, the congregational prayer), and a seal is placed upon his heart."
Imam Ahmad, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded a narration with this meaning; he (al-Tabarani) says: "Until he does not attend Jumu'ah, and does not even know which day is Friday." Its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Abdullah, the freed slave of Ghufrah, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver the sermon on Friday, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon Jumu'ah will come to a man while he is at a distance of one mile from Madinah, but he will not attend Jumu'ah." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the second time: "Soon it will happen that Jumu'ah will come to a man while he is at a distance of two miles from Madinah, and he will not attend it." And the third time he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon it will happen that a man will be at a distance of three miles from Madinah and he will not attend Jumu'ah, so Allah Almighty will place a seal upon his heart."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman narrates: I heard my paternal uncle narrate this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever hears the call (adhan) on Friday (for the Friday prayer) and does not come (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the wording is:) does not respond to it (that is, does not attend Jumu'ah), then hears the call (the next Friday) and does not come (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the wording is:) does not respond to it, then hears the call (the following Friday) and does not come (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the wording is:) does not respond, Allah Almighty places a seal upon his heart and makes his heart the heart of a hypocrite."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it. The narrator Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman is Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Sa'd bin Zurarah, and the one who narrates it from Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman is Shu'bah. There is disagreement among those narrating it from him: Abd al-Malik bin Ibrahim al-Juddi and al-Nadr bin Shumayl narrated it from Shu'bah, from Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman, from his paternal uncle; while Abu Ishaq al-Fazari narrated it from Shu'bah, from Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman, from Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Awfa, as this hadith will come later. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
