Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3159

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out a commander, he would say: "Keep the sermon short and speak little, for some speech is magic."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir through Jumay' bin Thawb, who is matruk (abandoned).
