Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3153

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to come every Thursday and stand up; he would not sit during it. He would say: "Do not put people to trial, for among the people are the weak, the elderly and those with needs. Let your hopes not become long, and let your desires not make you heedless, for whatever is coming is near, and what is far is that which will not come. Among the worst of people are those who are idle by day and carcasses by night."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Abu Ubaydah did not hear from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)).
