Hadith Beginning with the Letter Ya (ي)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm al-Ala'! Rejoice, for through the illness of a Muslim Allah removes his sins just as fire removes the dross of gold and silver."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm Harithah! There are many gardens in Paradise, and your son has attained al-Firdaws al-A'la (the highest Firdaws), and Firdaws is the highest, most central and most excellent place in Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm Harithah! It is not one Paradise; rather, there are many Paradises, and Harithah is in al-Firdaws al-A'la (the highest Firdaws)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm Salamah! The heart of every human being is between two of the fingers of Allah; whomever He wills He keeps upright, and whomever He wills He causes to deviate."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm Salamah! Do not hurt me concerning Aishah, for by Allah, revelation has never come down to me while I was under the blanket of any woman among you except her."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umm Sulaym! Do you not know that I made a stipulation with my Lord and said: I am only a human being; I become pleased as human beings become pleased, and I become angry as human beings become angry. So whoever from my Ummah I have invoked against, and he did not deserve it, then O Allah, make it for him a purification, a cleansing and a means of nearness by which You bring him near to Yourself on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O mother of so-and-so! Sit in whichever corner of the streets you wish, and I will come and sit with you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Anjashah! Slow down your driving, for these are women as delicate as glass."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Anas! People will build new cities, and one of them will be called Basrah or Busayrah. If you pass by it or enter it, then beware of its salt marshes, its pastures, its marketplace and the gates of its rulers, and keep to its outskirts, for there will be sinking into the earth, pelting (with stones) and earthquakes there, and some people will go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning as apes and swine."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people of the Qur'an! Pray witr, for Allah loves witr."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Fear Allah, and even if a mutilated Abyssinian slave is appointed as your ruler, listen to him and obey, as long as he establishes the Book of Allah among you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Fear your Lord who created you from a single soul, and created from it its mate, and from the two of them spread many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and fear (severing) the ties of kinship. Indeed, Allah is ever Watchful over you. O you who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forward for tomorrow, and fear Allah; indeed, Allah is fully Aware of what you do. Let a man give in charity from his dinar, from his dirham, from his garment, from his sa' of wheat, from his sa' of dates, even if it is only half a date."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Remember Allah, remember Allah! The first quake has come, to be followed by the second; the first quake has come, to be followed by the second. Death has come with all that it brings."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Be gentle with yourselves, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent; rather, you are calling upon One who is All-Hearing and Near, and He is with you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Spread the greeting of peace (salam), feed others, maintain the ties of kinship, and pray at night while people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah; they are not eclipsed for the death or the life of anyone. So when you see any of that, pray until it clears. I have seen, in this very prayer of mine, everything that you have been promised. Hell was brought forward, and that was when you saw me step back for fear that its blast would reach me, until I said: O Lord, and I am among them? And in it I saw the man with the crooked staff dragging his intestines in the Fire; he used to steal from the pilgrims with his staff, and if he was caught he would say: It just got caught on my staff! And if people were unaware, he would take it away. And I even saw in it the woman of the cat, who tied it up and neither fed it nor let it go so that it could eat the insects of the earth, until it died of hunger. And Paradise was brought forward, and that was when you saw me step forward until I stood in my place, and I stretched out my hand wanting to take some of its fruit so that you could look at it; then it occurred to me not to do so."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Allah has removed from you the arrogance of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) and its habit of boasting about forefathers. People are of two kinds: one righteous, God-fearing and honoured in the sight of Allah, and the other wicked, wretched and lowly in the sight of Allah. All people are the children of Adam, and Allah created Adam from dust."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Some of you drive people away. So whoever leads the people in prayer, let him keep it short, for behind him are the weak, the elderly and the one who has some need."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! This is from your spoils of war. Return even the thread and the needle, and whatever is above that, for misappropriation (of spoils) will be disgrace, dishonour and fire for the one who does it on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! You will be gathered before Allah barefoot, naked and uncircumcised. As We began the first creation, so shall We repeat it. Behold! The first of creation to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Behold! Some men from my Ummah will be brought and taken towards the left, and I will say: O Lord, these are my companions! And it will be said to me: You do not know what they innovated after you. Then I will say as the righteous servant said: And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them. Then it will be said: These people did not cease turning back on their heels in apostasy from the time you parted from them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! You will not be able to do everything I have commanded you, but stay on the right course, keep close to it, and rejoice."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Of what Allah has given you as spoils, not even the equivalent of this small thing is lawful for me except the fifth, and that fifth too is returned to you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Nothing of these spoils is lawful for me, not even this - and he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to a hair from the hump of a camel - except the fifth, and that fifth too is returned to you. So return even the needle and the thread."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! The Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) was made clear to me, and I came out to tell you about it, but two men came quarrelling and Satan was with them, so I was made to forget its fixed date. So seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan; seek it on the ninth, the seventh and the fifth nights."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Since Allah created the offspring of Adam (peace be upon him), there has been no trial on the face of the earth greater than the trial of the Dajjal. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has not sent any prophet except that he warned his Ummah about the Dajjal. I am the last of the prophets and you are the last of the nations, and he will inevitably appear among you. If he emerges while I am among you, I will argue on behalf of every Muslim; and if he emerges after me, then each person will argue on his own behalf, and Allah is my successor over every Muslim. He will emerge from a path between Syria and Iraq and will spread corruption to the right and to the left. O servants of Allah! O people! Stand firm, for I will describe him to you with a description that no prophet before me has given. He will say: I am your Lord, yet you will not see your Lord until you die. He is one-eyed, whereas your Lord is not one-eyed, and between his two eyes is written: Kafir (disbeliever), which every believer will read, whether he can write or not. Among his trials is that he will have with him a Paradise and a Hell, but his Hell is in reality Paradise and his Paradise is in reality Hell. So whoever is afflicted with his Hell, let him seek help from Allah and recite the opening verses of Surah al-Kahf. Among his trials is that he will say to a Bedouin: Tell me, if I bring your father and your mother back to life for you, will you bear witness that I am your Lord? He will say: Yes. Then two devils will appear to him in the form of his father and his mother and say: O my son, follow him, for he is your Lord. Among his trials is that he will be given power over one person, and he will kill him, sawing him with a saw until he falls in two pieces. Then he will say: Look at this servant of mine; I will now bring him back to life, and then he will claim that he has a Lord other than me. So Allah will bring him back to life, and the wicked one will say to him: Who is your Lord? He will say: My Lord is Allah, and you are the enemy of Allah, the Dajjal. By Allah, I never recognised you as clearly before as I do today. Among his trials is that he will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and command the earth to grow vegetation and it will grow. Among his trials is that he will pass by a tribe and they will reject him, and all their grazing livestock will perish. And among his trials is that he will pass by a tribe and they will believe him, and he will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and command the earth to grow vegetation and it will grow, until their livestock return that very evening fatter, larger, fuller in the flanks and more abundant in milk than they ever were. There will be no part of the earth that he does not reach and prevail over, except Makkah and Madinah; he will not approach them by any of their paths except that angels will meet him with drawn swords, until he halts near the red mound at the far edge of the salt plain. Then Madinah will shake with its inhabitants three times, and no hypocrite, man or woman, will remain in it except that he goes out to him. Thus Madinah will expel its impure ones just as the furnace removes the dross of iron, and that day will be called the Day of Deliverance. It was asked: Where will the Arabs be at that time? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On that day they will be few, and their imam will be a righteous man. While their imam has stepped forward to lead them in the Fajr prayer, Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon them both) will descend at the time of Fajr. That imam will begin to step back so that Isa (peace be upon him) may go forward, but Isa (peace be upon him) will place his hand between his shoulders and say to him: Go forward and lead the prayer, for it was established for you. So their imam will lead them in prayer, and when he finishes, Isa (peace be upon him) will say: Open the gate. They will open it, and behind it will be the Dajjal, with seventy thousand Jews, each with an ornamented sword and a shield. When the Dajjal sees Isa (peace be upon him), he will begin to dissolve as salt dissolves in water, and he will run away. Isa (peace be upon him) will catch up with him at the eastern gate of Ludd and kill him. Then Allah will defeat the Jews, and there will be nothing behind which a Jew hides except that Allah will make that thing speak, whether stone, tree, wall or animal, except the gharqad tree, for it is one of their trees and will not speak. Everything else will say: O Muslim servant of Allah! Here is a Jew; come and kill him. Then Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon them both) will be among my Ummah a just judge and an equitable leader. He will break the cross, slaughter the swine, abolish the jizyah and leave the charity, so zakah will not be collected on sheep or on camels. Rancour and mutual hatred will be lifted, and the venom of every venomous creature will be removed, until a little boy will put his hand into the mouth of a snake and it will not harm him, and a little girl will harm a lion and it will not harm her, and the wolf will be among the sheep as though it were their guard dog. The earth will be filled with peace as a vessel is filled with water, and the word of all will be one, so that none will be worshipped except Allah. War will lay down its burdens, and Quraysh will be stripped of their kingship. The earth will become like a silver platter, clean and clear, and will grow its produce as it did in the time of Adam (peace be upon him), until a group of people will gather to eat one bunch of grapes and it will satisfy them, and a group will gather to eat one pomegranate and it will satisfy them. An ox will be worth such-and-such an amount of wealth, and a horse will be worth a few dirhams. Before the emergence of the Dajjal there will be three hard years in which people will be struck by severe hunger. Allah will command the sky in the first year to withhold a third of its rain and command the earth to withhold a third of its produce. Then in the second year He will command the sky and it will withhold two thirds of its rain, and He will command the earth and it will withhold two thirds of its produce. Then in the third year He will command the sky and it will withhold all of its rain, so that not a single drop falls, and He will command the earth and it will withhold all of its produce, so that no green thing grows. Then no hoofed animal will survive, except whatever Allah wills; they will all perish. It was asked: How then will people live at that time? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the remembrance of 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god but Allah), 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) and 'Al-hamdu lillah' (praise be to Allah), which will suffice them as food does."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! I am your imam, so do not precede me in bowing (ruku'), nor in prostration, nor in standing, nor in sitting, nor in ending the prayer, for I see you in front of me and behind me. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you saw what I have seen, you would laugh little and weep much."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! I am leaving among you two things; if you hold fast to them, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and my 'itrah, that is, my family (Ahl al-Bayt)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage (mut'ah) with women, and now Allah has made it unlawful until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever has any such woman with him by way of mut'ah, let him release her, and do not take back anything of what you have given them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Whoever among the believers is struck by a calamity, let him find consolation for that calamity through the calamity of my death, for no one from my Ummah will ever be struck, after me, by a calamity harder upon him than the calamity of losing me."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Which day is the most sacred? Which day is the most sacred? Which day is the most sacred? The Companions said: The day of the greater Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then your blood, your wealth and your honour are sacred to you, just as this day of yours is sacred, in this city of yours, in this month of yours. Behold! No wrongdoer brings the consequence of his crime upon anyone but himself. Behold! No father is answerable for the crime of his child, nor a child for the crime of his father. Behold! Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped in this city of yours, but he will succeed in being obeyed in some of your deeds that you regard as insignificant, and he will be content with that. Behold! A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, and nothing belonging to his brother is lawful for a Muslim except what he gives willingly. Behold! All usury (riba) of the Days of Ignorance is abolished; you shall have your capital sums, neither wronging nor being wronged, except the usury of Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, which is also abolished entirely. And every blood claim of the Days of Ignorance is waived, and the first blood claim of the Days of Ignorance that I waive is that of al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib. Behold! Accept my counsel to treat women well, for they are like captives with you; you have no authority over them beyond that, unless they commit open indecency. If they do so, then leave them alone in their beds and strike them lightly, without causing injury. Then if they obey you, do not seek any means against them. Behold! You have a right over your women, and your women have a right over you. Your right over them is that they do not allow anyone you dislike onto your beds, and that they do not admit anyone you dislike into your houses. Behold! Their right over you is that you treat them well in their clothing and their food."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Repent to your Lord, for by Allah, I repent to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, a hundred times a day."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Learn your Hajj rites from me, for I do not know; perhaps I will not perform Hajj after this year of mine."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Return my cloak to me. By Allah, if I had livestock as many as the trees of Tihamah, I would distribute them among you, and then you would not find me miserly, nor cowardly, nor a liar. O people! Nothing of these spoils is lawful for me, not even the equivalent of this hair, except the fifth, and that fifth too is returned to you. So return even the needle and the thread, for misappropriation (of spoils) will be disgrace, fire and dishonour for the one who does it on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Keep calm, for righteousness does not lie in making horses and camels run fast."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Keep calm and dignified, for righteousness does not lie in making camels run fast."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Adopt moderation, adopt moderation, adopt moderation, for Allah Almighty will not grow weary of rewarding until you grow weary of doing deeds."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Do only as many deeds as you are able to, for Allah does not grow weary of rewarding until you grow weary of doing deeds, and the deed most beloved to Allah is the one done consistently, even if it is little."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! What is the matter with you that when something happens to you in the prayer, you start clapping? Clapping is only for women. Whoever has something happen to him in his prayer, let him say 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah), for when someone says 'Subhan Allah', whoever hears him turns his attention to him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Do you know why I have gathered you? By Allah, I have not gathered you for any hope or fear, but I have gathered you because Tamim al-Dari - who was a Christian, then came, gave the pledge of allegiance and became Muslim - told me something that agrees with what I used to tell you about the Masih al-Dajjal. He told me that he boarded a seagoing ship with thirty men from Lakhm and Judham, and the waves tossed them about in the sea for a month. Then they came to shore at an island in the sea at sunset, and they sat in the ship's small boats and entered the island. There they met a very hairy beast, with so much hair that its front could not be told from its back. They said: Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. They asked: What is al-Jassasah? It said: O people, go to this man in the monastery, for he is very eager for news of you. Tamim said: When it named a man to us, we became afraid of it, lest it be a she-devil itself. So we went quickly until we entered the gate of the monastery, and there was the largest human being we had ever seen, and the most tightly bound, his two hands tied to his neck and, between his knees and his ankles, chains of iron. We asked: Woe to you, what are you? He said: You are able to learn my news; first tell me who you are. We said: We are some people of the Arabs. We boarded a seagoing ship, the sea became rough, and the waves tossed us about for a month. Then we came to shore at this island of yours, and we sat in the ship's small boats and entered the island. There we met a very hairy beast, with so much hair that its front could not be told from its back. We said: Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. We asked: What is al-Jassasah? It said: Go to this man in the monastery, for he is eager for news of you. So we came to you quickly, afraid of it and not feeling safe that it might be a she-devil. He said: Tell me about the date palms of Baysan. We asked: What do you want to know about them? He said: I am asking you whether they bear fruit. We said: Yes. He said: Behold! Soon they will stop bearing fruit. He said: Tell me about the lake of Tiberias. We asked: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in it? We said: It has a great deal of water. He said: Soon its water will be gone. He said: Tell me about the spring of Zughar. We asked: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in the spring? And do its people cultivate with the water of the spring? We said: Yes, it has a great deal of water, and its people cultivate with its water. He said: Tell me about the Prophet of the unlettered people; what has he done? We said: He has left Makkah and settled in Yathrib. He asked: Have the Arabs fought him? We said: Yes. He asked: What did he do with the Arabs? So we told him that he had prevailed over the Arabs near him and that they had submitted to him in obedience. He said: Has that really happened? We said: Yes. He said: It is better for them to obey him. And now I will tell you about myself: I am the Masih al-Dajjal, and soon I will be given permission to emerge. Then I will emerge and travel through the earth, and I will not leave a single town without descending upon it within forty nights, except Makkah and Madinah; both of them are forbidden to me. Whenever I want to enter either of them, an angel with a drawn sword in his hand will meet me and turn me back, and on every path to them there are angels guarding them. Shall I not tell you? This is Madinah, this is Madinah, this is Madinah. Had I not told you this before? Tamim's account pleased me because it agrees with what I told you about him, and about Madinah and Makkah. Behold! He is in the sea of Syria, or in the sea of Yemen; no, rather he will come from the direction of the east, he is from the direction of the east, he is from the direction of the east."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Do not kill one another and do not harm one another, and when you stone the Jamrah, throw pebbles the size of small flicking pebbles."
