"يا أيها الناس! هل تدرون لم جمعتكم؟ إني والله ما جمعتكم لرغبة ولا لرهبة ولكن جمعتكم لأن تميما الداري كان رجلا نصرانيا فجاء فبايع وأسلم وحدثني حديثا وافق الذي كنت أحدثكم عن المسيح الدجال ; حدثني أنه ركب في سفينة بحرية مع ثلاثين رجلا من لخم وجذام فلعب بهم الموج شهرا في البحر ثم ارفئوا إلى جزيرة في البحر حين غروب الشمس فجلسوا في أقرب السفينة فدخلوا الجزيرة فلقيهم دابة أهلب كثير الشعر لا يدرون ما قبله من دبره من كثرة الشعر فقالوا: ويلك ما أنت؟ قالت: أنا الجساسة قالوا: وما الجساسة؟ قالت: أيها القوم انطلقوا إلى هذا الرجل في الدير فإنه إلى خبركم بالأشواق قال: لما سمت لنا رجلا فرقنا منها أن تكون شيطانة فانطلقنا سراعا حتى دخلنا باب الدير فإذا فيه أعظم إنسان رأيناه قط خلقا وأشده وثاقا مجموعة يداه إلى عنقه ما بين ركبتيه إلى كعبيه بالحديد قلنا: ويلك ما أنت؟ قال: قد قدرتم على خبري فأخبروني ما أنتم؟ قالوا: نحن أناس من العرب ركبنا في سفينة بحرية فصادفنا البحر حين اغتلم فلعب بنا الموج شهرا ثم أرفأنا إلى جزيرتك هذه فجلسنا في أقربها فدخلنا الجزيرة فلقيتنا دابة أهلب كثير الشعر ما يدري ما قبله من دبره من كثرة الشعر فقلنا ويلك ما أنت؟ قالت: أنا الجساسة قلنا وما الجساسة؟ قالت اعمدوا إلى هذا الرجل في الدير فإنه إلى خبركم بالأشواق فأقبلنا إليك سراعا وفرقنا منها ولم نأمن أن تكون شيطانة قال: أخبروني عن نخل بيسان قلنا: عن أي شأنها تستخبر؟ قال: أسألكم عن نخلها هل يثمر؟ قلنا له: نعم قال: أما إنها يوشك أن لا تثمر قال: أخبروني عن بحيرة طبرية؟ قلنا: عن أي شأنها تستخبر؟ قال: هل فيها ماء؟ قلنا: هي كثيرة الماء قال: إن ماءها يوشك أن يذهب قال: أخبروني عن عين ذعر قلنا: عن أي شأنها تستخبر؟ قال هل في العين ماء؟ وهل يزرع أهلها بماء العين؟ قلنا له: نعم هي كثيرة الماء وأهلها يزرعون من مائها قال: أخبروني عن نبي الأميين ما فعل؟ قالوا: قد خرج من مكة ونزل يثرب قال: أقاتله العرب؟ قلنا: نعم قال: كيف صنع بهم فأخبرناه أنه قد ظهر على من يليه من العرب وأطاعوه قال: قد كان ذلك! قلنا: نعم قال أما إن ذلك خير لهم أن يطيعوه وإني أخبركم عني أنا المسيح وإني أوشك أن يؤذن لي بالخروج فأخرج فأسير في الأرض فلا أدع قرية إلا هبطتها في أربعين ليلة غير مكة وطيبة هما محرمتان على كلتاهما كلما أردت أن أدخل واحدة منهما استقبلني ملك بيده السيف صلتا يصدني عنها وإن على كل نقب منها ملائكة يحرسونها ألا أخبركم؟ هذه طيبة هذه طيبة هذه طيبة ألا كنت حدثتكم ذلك؟ فإنه أعجبني حديث تميم أنه وافق الذي كنت أحدثكم عنه وعن المدينة ومكة ألا إنه في بحر الشام أو في بحر اليمن لا بل من قبل المشرق ما هومن قبل المشرق ما هومن قبل المشرق ما هو "
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Do you know why I have gathered you? By Allah, I have not gathered you for any hope or fear, but I have gathered you because Tamim al-Dari - who was a Christian, then came, gave the pledge of allegiance and became Muslim - told me something that agrees with what I used to tell you about the Masih al-Dajjal. He told me that he boarded a seagoing ship with thirty men from Lakhm and Judham, and the waves tossed them about in the sea for a month. Then they came to shore at an island in the sea at sunset, and they sat in the ship's small boats and entered the island. There they met a very hairy beast, with so much hair that its front could not be told from its back. They said: Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. They asked: What is al-Jassasah? It said: O people, go to this man in the monastery, for he is very eager for news of you. Tamim said: When it named a man to us, we became afraid of it, lest it be a she-devil itself. So we went quickly until we entered the gate of the monastery, and there was the largest human being we had ever seen, and the most tightly bound, his two hands tied to his neck and, between his knees and his ankles, chains of iron. We asked: Woe to you, what are you? He said: You are able to learn my news; first tell me who you are. We said: We are some people of the Arabs. We boarded a seagoing ship, the sea became rough, and the waves tossed us about for a month. Then we came to shore at this island of yours, and we sat in the ship's small boats and entered the island. There we met a very hairy beast, with so much hair that its front could not be told from its back. We said: Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. We asked: What is al-Jassasah? It said: Go to this man in the monastery, for he is eager for news of you. So we came to you quickly, afraid of it and not feeling safe that it might be a she-devil. He said: Tell me about the date palms of Baysan. We asked: What do you want to know about them? He said: I am asking you whether they bear fruit. We said: Yes. He said: Behold! Soon they will stop bearing fruit. He said: Tell me about the lake of Tiberias. We asked: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in it? We said: It has a great deal of water. He said: Soon its water will be gone. He said: Tell me about the spring of Zughar. We asked: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in the spring? And do its people cultivate with the water of the spring? We said: Yes, it has a great deal of water, and its people cultivate with its water. He said: Tell me about the Prophet of the unlettered people; what has he done? We said: He has left Makkah and settled in Yathrib. He asked: Have the Arabs fought him? We said: Yes. He asked: What did he do with the Arabs? So we told him that he had prevailed over the Arabs near him and that they had submitted to him in obedience. He said: Has that really happened? We said: Yes. He said: It is better for them to obey him. And now I will tell you about myself: I am the Masih al-Dajjal, and soon I will be given permission to emerge. Then I will emerge and travel through the earth, and I will not leave a single town without descending upon it within forty nights, except Makkah and Madinah; both of them are forbidden to me. Whenever I want to enter either of them, an angel with a drawn sword in his hand will meet me and turn me back, and on every path to them there are angels guarding them. Shall I not tell you? This is Madinah, this is Madinah, this is Madinah. Had I not told you this before? Tamim's account pleased me because it agrees with what I told you about him, and about Madinah and Makkah. Behold! He is in the sea of Syria, or in the sea of Yemen; no, rather he will come from the direction of the east, he is from the direction of the east, he is from the direction of the east."
