" يا أيها الناس! أي يوم أحرم؟ أي يوم أحرم؟ أي يوم أحرم؟ قالوا: يوم الحج الأكبر قال: فإن دماءكم وأموالكم وأعراضكم عليكم حرام كحرمة يومكم هذا في بلدكم هذا في شهركم هذا ألا لا يجني جان إلا على نفسه ألا ولا يجني والد على ولده ولا ولد على والده ; ألا إن الشيطان قد أيس أن يعبد في بلدكم هذا أبدا ولكن ستكون له طاعة في بعض ما تحتقرون من أعمالكم فيرضى بها ألا إن المسلم أخو المسلم فليس يحل لمسلم من أخيه شيء إلا ما أحل من نفسه ألا وإن كل ربا في الجاهلية موضوع لكم رءوس أموالكم لا تظلمون ولا تظلمون غير ربا العباس بن عبد المطلب فإنه موضوع كله وإن كل دم كان في الجاهلية موضوع وأول دم أضع من دم الجاهلية دم الحارث بن عبد المطلب ألا واستوصوا بالنساء خيرا فإنما هن عوان عندكم ليس تملكون منهن شيئا غير ذلك إلا أن يأتين بفاحشة مبينة فإن فعلن فاهجروهن في المضاجع واضربوهن ضربا غير مبرح فإن أطعنكم فلا تبغوا عليهن سبيلا ألا وإن لكم على نسائكم حقا ولنسائكم عليكم حقا فأما حقكم على نسائكم فلا يوطئن فرشكم من تكرهون ولا يأذن في بيوتكم لمن تكرهون ألا وإن حقهن عليكم أن تحسنوا إليهن في كسوتهن وطعامهن"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O people! Which day is the most sacred? Which day is the most sacred? Which day is the most sacred? The Companions said: The day of the greater Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then your blood, your wealth and your honour are sacred to you, just as this day of yours is sacred, in this city of yours, in this month of yours. Behold! No wrongdoer brings the consequence of his crime upon anyone but himself. Behold! No father is answerable for the crime of his child, nor a child for the crime of his father. Behold! Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped in this city of yours, but he will succeed in being obeyed in some of your deeds that you regard as insignificant, and he will be content with that. Behold! A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, and nothing belonging to his brother is lawful for a Muslim except what he gives willingly. Behold! All usury (riba) of the Days of Ignorance is abolished; you shall have your capital sums, neither wronging nor being wronged, except the usury of Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, which is also abolished entirely. And every blood claim of the Days of Ignorance is waived, and the first blood claim of the Days of Ignorance that I waive is that of al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib. Behold! Accept my counsel to treat women well, for they are like captives with you; you have no authority over them beyond that, unless they commit open indecency. If they do so, then leave them alone in their beds and strike them lightly, without causing injury. Then if they obey you, do not seek any means against them. Behold! You have a right over your women, and your women have a right over you. Your right over them is that they do not allow anyone you dislike onto your beds, and that they do not admit anyone you dislike into your houses. Behold! Their right over you is that you treat them well in their clothing and their food."
