Hadith Beginning with the Letter Lam-Alif (لا)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising the son of Maryam. I am only a servant, so say about me: the servant of Allah and His Messenger."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not feed the poor with what you yourselves do not eat."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The same prayer should not be repeated twice in one day."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not be impressed by the deeds of anyone who does deeds until you see what his end will be."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not punish anyone with the punishment of Allah (that is, fire)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not torment your children by pressing (their throats) because of throat inflammation ('udhrah); rather, you must use costus (qust, Indian aloeswood)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"In discretionary punishment (ta'zir), do not strike more than ten lashes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not acquire knowledge in order to boast of it before the scholars, or to argue with the foolish by means of it, or to try to stand out in gatherings by means of it. Whoever does that, for him is the Fire, the Fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Mounts are to be wearied (in travel) only towards three mosques: towards al-Masjid al-Haram, towards this mosque of mine, and towards the mosque of Bayt al-Maqdis."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"After today, Makkah will never be attacked until the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not become angry."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not become angry, and Paradise is yours."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not let the Bedouins prevail over you concerning the name of your prayer, 'Isha', for in the Book of Allah it is 'Isha', whereas they call it 'Atamah' because they delay (at night) in milking the camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not let the Bedouins prevail over you concerning the name of your prayer, for it is 'Isha'; they only call it 'Atamah' because of their delaying with the camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not prefer one of the Prophets of Allah over another, for when the Trumpet is blown, whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall unconscious, except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown a second time, and I will be the first to be raised. Then I will find Musa (peace be upon him) holding on to the Throne, and I do not know whether he was recompensed for his swoon on the Day of Tur, or whether he was raised before me. And I do not say that anyone is better than Yunus bin Matta."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not do that. Sell all (the dates) for dirhams, then with those dirhams buy good-quality dates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not do that, for one of you standing for a while in the path of Allah is better than his praying in his house for seventy years. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you and admit you into Paradise? Fight in the path of Allah. Whoever fights in the path of Allah even for as long as the interval between two milkings of a she-camel, Paradise becomes obligatory for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not do as the people of Persia do with their great men."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prescribed punishments (hudud) are not carried out in the mosques, and a father is not executed in retaliation for his son."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prayer of any of you is not accepted when he has become ritually impure, until he performs ablution."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prayer of a woman who has reached puberty is not accepted without a head covering (khimar)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Prayer is not accepted without purification, nor charity given from stolen spoils."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prayer of a woman who puts on perfume to come to this mosque is not accepted until she goes back and bathes in the way the ritual bath for major impurity (janabah) is taken."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"My heirs shall not divide even a single dinar of mine. Whatever I leave behind, after the maintenance of my wives and the provision of my worker, is charity."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"No soul is killed unjustly except that a share of its blood is also upon the first son of Adam, because he was the first to establish killing."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not kill locusts, for they are of the greatest army of Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not kill the house snakes, except every short-tailed one with two stripes, for it causes miscarriage and takes away eyesight; so kill it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not kill frogs."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not kill your children secretly. By the One in whose hand is my soul! Ghilah (breastfeeding during pregnancy) overtakes the horseman and knocks him off his horse."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not fast a day or two before Ramadan, unless it is a regular fast that one of you observes. Do not fast without seeing the moon, then keep fasting until you see the moon; and if clouds come between you and it, complete thirty days, then stop fasting. And the month may also be of twenty-nine days."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not fast a day or two before Ramadan, unless it coincides with someone's regular fast. Fast upon seeing the moon and stop fasting upon seeing the moon; and if clouds cover it over you, count thirty days, then stop fasting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not go ahead of the month until you see the moon or complete the count of the month before it; then keep fasting until you see the moon or complete the count before it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not go ahead of Ramadan by fasting a day or two before it, unless a man has a regular fast, in which case he may observe it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Relate a dream only to a scholar or a sincere well-wisher."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Hands are not cut off during a journey."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The hand is not cut off for hanging dates; but if they have been gathered into the drying-floor, the hand is cut off for theft worth the price of a shield. And the hand is not cut off for an animal grazing unguarded on the mountain; but when it has come into the pen, the hand is cut off for theft worth the price of a shield."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The hand of the thief is cut off only for a quarter of a dinar or more."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not sit on graves."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not say, 'May Satan perish,' for then he grows so big that he becomes as large as a house and says, 'I threw him down by my own strength.' Rather, say, 'Bismillah (In the name of Allah),' for when you say that, he shrinks until he becomes as small as a fly."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do not say 'Alayka as-salam,' for 'Alayka as-salam' is the greeting of the dead. Rather, say, 'As-salamu 'alayka.'"
