The coming of the Angel of Death when taking the soul, and what happens afterwards in the grave to the believer and the disbeliever

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he narrated a report similar in meaning to the preceding hadith of al-Bara' bin Azib, except that at its end he added (that it is said to the believer): "Sleep as the God-fearing sleep," and it is said about the wicked person: "Sleep as one who has been bitten sleeps, for there will be no creature of the earth that does not have a share in his body (that is, in biting him)."
This hadith has been narrated from al-A'mash by imams and hafiz scholars such as Sufyan al-Thawri, Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj and Za'idah bin Qudamah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a funeral; we reached the grave and the lahd (niche) had not yet been prepared (then the narrator mentioned the full hadith).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated the hadith about the conditions of the grave (then the narrator mentioned a report similar in meaning to the preceding hadith).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that we prayed the funeral prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) over a man of the Ansar; then he mentioned the long hadith about the conditions of the grave.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), because both of them used al-Minhal bin Amr and Zadhan Abu Umar al-Kindi as evidence. This hadith contains many benefits for Ahl al-Sunnah and a refutation of the innovators; however, the two of them (Imam Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it at such length.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke about (the conditions of) the believer and the disbeliever; then he narrated a part of the hadith of the grave.
Thus the authenticity of this hadith has become clear through both the original (chain) and the supporting narration.

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the funeral of a man of the Ansar, and we came to the grave and the lahd (niche) had not yet been prepared. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat facing the qiblah and we sat around him (then he mentioned the hadith).
(Imam al-Hakim says:) Perhaps someone may imagine that the hadith in whose chain Abu al-Bakhtari is mentioned renders it defective (ma'lul), but that is not so, for the mention of Abu al-Bakhtari in this hadith is an error on the part of Shu'ayb bin Safwan, since the trustworthy imams agree that Yunus bin Khabbab narrates this hadith through al-Minhal bin Amr from Zadhan, that he heard it from Sayyiduna al-Bara'.

(Imam al-Hakim says:) The proof of the correctness of what I have mentioned is that Abbad bin Abbad said: I came to Yunus bin Khabbab at Mina near the minaret while he was preaching, and I asked him about the hadith of the punishment of the grave, so he narrated it to me.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that we went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a funeral; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat at the grave and we sat around him (peace and blessings be upon him), then the narrator narrated the full long hadith.
This is what is correct and well-preserved (mahfuz) in the narration of Yunus bin Khabbab, and it was likewise narrated from al-Minhal bin Amr by Abu Khalid al-Dalani, Amr bin Qays al-Mula'i and al-Hasan bin Ubaydullah al-Nakha'i.

(Continuation of the preceding discussion.) As for the hadith of Abu Khalid al-Dalani, it was narrated from him by Abd al-Salam bin Harb (in a chain that includes al-Sari bin Yahya al-Tamimi).

And as for the hadith of Amr bin Qays al-Mula'i, it was narrated from him by Abu Khalid al-Ahmar.

And as for the hadith of al-Hasan bin Ubaydullah, it was narrated from him by Abu Bakr bin Ayyash; all of these narrators said: "from Zadhan, from al-Bara', from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
All of these chains that I have mentioned are sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) were walking in al-Baqi' (graveyard), when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Do you hear what I hear?" He said: "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah! I do not hear it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not hear the people of the graves being punished?"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording; they only agreed on the hadith of Shu'bah from Qatadah from Anas, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not that I fear you would stop burying (your dead out of fear), I would ask Allah to make you hear the punishment of the grave."
