Maymun bin Mihran said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: I remember that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took part in a military expedition, and during that expedition we were at the place called "Fajj al-Rawha'". The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed me and supplicated for me; I would not like to be given this world and everything in it in exchange for those supplications.

Has the time of suhur drawn near? He would reply: No! Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) would start praying again, and then he would ask: O Nafi'! A poor man came, and Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Give it to him. Then someone went after him, bought it from him for one dirham and brought it to him. Then the poor man came again and asked, and Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Give it to him. Then someone else went after him and bought it from him for one dirham. Zayd bin Aslam said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by a shepherd of goats and asked: O shepherd of the goats! Is there a goat that could be slaughtered? The shepherd said: Their owner is not here. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You can say that a wolf ate it. The shepherd raised his head towards the sky and then asked: Then where is Allah Almighty? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: By Allah! I have more right to say: Where is Allah Almighty? (meaning, Allah Almighty is watching). Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) bought that shepherd and bought his goats, then freed the shepherd and gave him the goats.

Al-Mut'am bin Miqdam al-San'ani said: Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf wrote to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): I have been informed that you are seeking rule, whereas the caliphate is not fitting for anyone who is weak, or miserly, or very hot-tempered. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) wrote back to him: As for what you mentioned about the matter of the caliphate, that I am seeking it, I am not seeking it, nor is it any concern of mine. And as for what you mentioned about weakness, miserliness and sharpness of temper: whoever has gathered the Book of Allah (that is, memorised it) is not weak, and whoever has paid the zakah of his wealth is not miserly. And as for the sharpness of temper that you mentioned, the thing over which I would most rightly show it is my children, that someone should become my partner in them.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); however,
this report from the narrator al-Mut'am is mursal, because he did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Makhul said: Once I was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) as he was walking along. Meanwhile a black man passed by him who had a spear with him. He placed its lower, pointed end on the foot of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), between the big toe and the toe next to it (and wounded him). He was carried home, and his shin became swollen. Al-Hajjaj came to visit him in his illness and said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman! Who caused you this injury? I will take retribution from him for you. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Allah Almighty will take retribution from him; Allah Almighty will take retribution from him. Then he said: What is the matter with the Sanctuary of Allah Almighty and the place of security He has appointed, that weapons are carried there? (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is mentioned in the "Sahih".
