وَعَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَقَالَ : مَا يَمْنَعُكَ مِنْ هَذَا الْأَمْرِ وَأَنْتَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَابْنُ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؟ قَالَ : يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْهُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - حَرَّمَ عَلَيَّ دَمَ أَخِي الْمُسْلِمِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَبُو الْأَشْهَبِ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Nafi' said: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: Why do you take no interest in the matter of rule, when you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and also the son of the Commander of the Believers? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: What holds me back from it is that Allah Almighty has made the blood of my Muslim brother unlawful for me.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report; its chain contains a narrator, Ja'far bin al-Harith Abu al-Ashhab, and he is da'if (weak).
