وَعَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ : أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحْيِي اللَّيْلَ صَلَاةً ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : يَا نَافِعُ ، أَسَحَرْنَا ؟ فَيَقُولُ : لَا ، فَيُعَاوِدُ الصَّلَاةَ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : يَا نَافِعُ ، أَسَحَرْنَا ؟ فَأَقُولُ : نَعَمْ ، فَيَقْعُدُ فَيَسْتَغْفِرُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ أَسَدِ بْنِ مُوسَى ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Nafi' narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he would offer voluntary prayers at night, and then he would ask: O Nafi'! Has the time of suhur drawn near? He would reply: No! Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) would start praying again, and then he would ask: O Nafi'! Has the time of suhur drawn near? I would reply: Yes! Then he would sit and keep seeking forgiveness and supplicating until true dawn broke.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Asad bin Musa, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
