Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the same matters on which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken the pledge from the women, and it was settled that whoever among us died without having committed any of those (sins), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guaranteed Paradise for him; and if any of us died in a state where he had committed one of those (sins) and the prescribed punishment (hadd) had been carried out on him, then that (carrying out of the punishment) would be an expiation; and whoever among us died in a state where he had committed one of those crimes and Allah Almighty had concealed it for him, then his reckoning rests with Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Sayf bin Harun, whom Abu Nu'aym declared thiqah (trustworthy) while a group declared him da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from her that she would not associate anyone with Allah and would not commit fornication (as is mentioned in the full verse). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The woman put her hand on her head out of modesty, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked this in her. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O woman! Affirm it, for by Allah, we too gave the pledge on these matters." The woman said: "Then very well." Then she gave the pledge according to the command of this verse.

Then he sent Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) to those women. He stood at the door and greeted the women with salam, and the women returned his greeting. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I am the envoy of the Messenger of Allah to you." The women said: "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah and to the envoy of the Messenger of Allah!" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Bear witness that you will not associate anyone with Allah Almighty, you will not steal, you will not commit fornication, you will not kill your children, you will not bring forth a slander invented by yourselves, and you will not disobey in what is good." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Allah! Be witness!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered that on the two Eids, menstruating women and the free women (or young girls) should also come out; however, we (that is, the women) were forbidden from following funerals, and the Friday prayer was not made obligatory upon us either. The narrator says: I asked him about the slander, and about this saying: "They will not disobey you in what is good", and he replied: "What is meant by it is wailing over the dead."
Sayyidah Azzah bint Khabil (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from her: "You will not commit fornication, you will not steal, and you will not bury (a child) alive, whether openly or secretly." The narrating woman says: As for burying alive openly, I know what that is; but as for burying alive secretly, I did not ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, nor did he tell me about it. However, it occurs to my mind that what is meant by it is destroying the child (in the mother's womb). By Allah! I will never harm a child of mine.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir with something similar, from Ata bin Mas'ud al-Ka'bi, from his father, from her. I do not know the narrator named Mas'ud; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had pitched a tent in the open plain (al-Abtah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from us that we would not associate anyone with Allah; he took the pledge regarding all the things mentioned in this verse. When we had affirmed it, we extended our hands so that we could give him the pledge, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not hold the hands of women." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for forgiveness for us, and that was our pledge.
