Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I went in with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), who had pain in his eyes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Zayd, if your sight were to go, what would you do?" He said: "In that case, I would be patient and hope for reward." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your sight goes, and you are patient and hope for reward, then when you appear before Allah Almighty, there will be no sin upon you."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned in the Sahih, which is other than this one.
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Ju'fi, about whom there is much criticism; al-Thawri and Shu'bah declared him thiqah (trustworthy).

Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Ayyash, about whom there is criticism.

Sayyidah Aishah bint Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is far above Allah Almighty that He should take away a believer's two dear things and then admit him into Hell." Yunus said: This means his two eyes.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Uthman al-Hatibi, whom Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book al-Thiqat.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A servant is not tried with any trial harder upon him than associating partners with Allah, and a servant is not tried with anything harder than the loss of his sight; and whenever a servant is tried with the loss of his sight and he is patient, he is forgiven."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Jabir al-Ju'fi, about whom there is much criticism, and he has also been declared trustworthy.

Unaysah bint Zayd bin Arqam narrates from her father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him); he had come to visit him during an illness he had. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There will be no harm to you from this illness of yours; but how will it be with you when you are granted a long life after me and you become blind?" He said: "Then I will be patient and hope for reward." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In that case you will enter Paradise without any reckoning." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) became blind after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); then Allah Almighty restored his sight to him, and then he passed away, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded a part of this narration, the part about visiting him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Kabir. I have not found anyone who mentions Nubatah bint Barir bin Hammad.

Abu Zilal al-Qasmali narrates that he came to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: "O Abu Zilal, when did your sight go?" He replied: "I do not remember." Sayyiduna Anas said: "Shall I not tell you a hadith which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us from Sayyiduna Jibril, from his Lord? He told us that the Lord said: 'O Jibril, the reward of My servant whose sight I have taken away is nothing other than looking at My Face and dwelling near Me in My Abode.'"
The narrator says: And I saw the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who were around him begin to weep, wishing that their sight would go (so that they would attain this reward).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ashras bin al-Rabi', and I have not found anyone who mentions him. The narrator Abu Zilal was declared da'if (weak) by Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Adi, while Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy).

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Maslamah bin al-Salt, and he is matruk (abandoned). Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and Ahmad bin Hanbal narrated from him.
