Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Worship Allah, do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayer, pay the obligatory zakah, perform Hajj and Umrah, and fast in Ramadan. Look at the treatment you would like people to give you, and give them that same treatment; and the conduct you dislike for yourself, keep people safe from it too (that is, do not treat them that way)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him. Act for Allah as though you see Him, count yourself among the dead, and remember Allah Almighty at every stone and every tree (that is, in every state and every place). When you commit an evil deed, do a good deed right alongside it: a secret good deed for a secret evil deed, and a public good deed for a public evil deed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Worship the Most Merciful, spread (make common) the greeting of peace (salam), and feed people; you will enter the Gardens of Paradise (in peace)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Be balanced in prostration (that is, adopt a moderate posture), and let none of you spread his forearms on the ground the way a dog spreads them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Delay this prayer (that is, Isha), for by virtue of this prayer you have been granted superiority over all other nations, and no nation before you prayed it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The most incapable (and helpless) of people is the one who is incapable of making supplication, and the stingiest of people is the one who is stingy with the greeting of peace (salam)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Count six signs before the Hour comes: my death; then the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis; then a deadly plague that will spread rapidly among you just as disease spreads among goats and kills them; then such an abundance of wealth that if a man is given even a hundred dinars he will remain displeased, considering it little; then a tremendous trial will appear, leaving no Arab household it does not enter; then a truce that will be between you and Banu al-Asfar (the Romans/Christians), but they will betray it and come to attack you, gathered under eighty (80) banners, with an army of twelve thousand under each banner."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Be just among your children in giving gifts (presents), exactly as you would like them to be equal and fair towards you in kind treatment and gentleness."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty has left no excuse for a person whose death He kept postponing until he reached sixty years of age."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Present your ruqyahs (the words with which you recite over the sick) to me. There is no harm in ruqyah as long as it contains no words of shirk."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Turn away from (prying into the private and hidden affairs of) people. Do you not know that if you go searching for people's faults and suspicions, you will corrupt their character, or you will come close to corrupting them?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take careful note of the number of it (the lost item), its container (or pouch) and the string used to tie it, then announce it (publicly) for one year. If its owner comes (then return it to him); otherwise it will be like your own property."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Know your lineages (your family tree and family ties) so that through them you may maintain the ties of kinship, for if kinship is severed, its closeness is of no benefit, however close it may be; and if kinship is maintained, its distance means nothing, however distant it may be."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Remove harmful things from the path of the Muslims."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you wish, practise withdrawal ('azl) with her (the slave woman or wife), that is, discharge the semen outside; but know for certain that whatever child has been decreed for her will come to her regardless."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give every surah its full due in bowing and prostration (that is, according to the length of the surah, spend a proportionate amount of time in bowing and prostration as well)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give the labourer his wage before his sweat dries."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been given five distinctions which were not given to any prophet before me: (1) I have been helped by awe (cast into the hearts of enemies) from a distance of a month's journey. (2) The whole earth has been made for me a place of prostration (a mosque) and a means of purification, so whichever man of my Ummah the time of prayer overtakes, wherever he is, let him pray right there. (3) The spoils of war have been made lawful for me, whereas they were not lawful for anyone before me. (4) I have been given the intercession (the great station of intercession). (5) Every prophet before me was sent specifically to his own people alone, whereas I have been sent to all people in general."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been given seventy thousand of my Ummah who will enter Paradise without any reckoning. Their faces will shine like the moon on the night of the full moon, and all their hearts will be like the heart of a single man (united and loving one another). Then I asked my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, for more, and He (at my request) added a further seventy thousand with each one of them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been given the openings of speech, its comprehensive expressions (jawami' al-kalim, that is, concise words that are brief in wording but vast in meaning) and the excellences of its conclusions."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"In place of the Torah I have been given the seven long surahs (al-Sab' al-Tiwal); in place of the Psalms (Zabur) I have been given the surahs of about a hundred verses (al-Mi'in); in place of the Gospel (Injil) I have been given the oft-repeated surahs (al-Mathani); and I have been granted excellence and superiority over all the prophets in particular through the short surahs (al-Mufassal)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"These final verses of Surah al-Baqarah have been given to me from a treasure (a special treasure of Allah) beneath the Throne; they were not given to any prophet before me."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give (in the way of Allah) and do not hoard (your wealth) by counting it out or by tying up the mouth of your pouch, otherwise (the door of provision from Allah) will be closed on you as well."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Yusuf (peace be upon him) was given half of (the world's) beauty."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Yusuf (peace be upon him) and his mother were given half of (the world's) beauty."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The greatest of days in the sight of Allah Almighty is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr, that is, 10 Dhul-Hijjah), and after it the Day of Settling (Yawm al-Qarr, 11 Dhul-Hijjah, the day of staying in Mina)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"In the matter of prayer, the greatest reward goes to the person who covers the longest distance (to come to the mosque), then after him the one who is at a shorter distance than that. And the one who waits for the prayer until he performs it in congregation with the imam has a far greater reward than the one who prays it (alone) and then goes to sleep."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The greatest liars (and slanderers) among people are of two kinds: a poet who satirises (disparages and condemns) an entire tribe in its entirety, and a man who disowns his lineage from his (real) father."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Let your beards grow, trim your moustaches, change the whiteness of your hair (with dye), and do not imitate the Jews and the Christians."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"First tie the knee of it (your she-camel), and then put your trust (in Allah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Know that you do not make any prostration to Allah except that, by virtue of it (that prostration), Allah Almighty raises you by one degree and erases one sin from you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Know that there is none among you except that the wealth of his heir is dearer to him than his own wealth. (In reality) your wealth is only what you have sent ahead (by spending it in the way of Allah), and the wealth you leave behind is the wealth of your heir."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Abu Mas'ud! Know that Allah Almighty has far more power and authority over you than the control you have over this slave."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Announce marriage (openly)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The lifespans of the people of my Ummah will (generally) be between sixty and seventy years, and very few of them will go beyond that (limit)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep doing deeds, for each person is made easy for that for which he was created."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(O Allah!) I seek refuge in Your might, besides which there is no god worthy of worship, lest You lead me astray. You are the Ever-Living who will never die, while the jinn and mankind will all die."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take a bath (ghusl) on Friday and wash your heads, even if the ritual bath for major impurity (janabah) is not obligatory on you, and also apply some perfume."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take advantage of five things before five: your life before your death, your health before your sickness, your free time before your preoccupation, your youth before your old age, and your prosperity (wealth) before your poverty."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah, and fight against whoever disbelieves in Allah. Fight, but do not embezzle from the spoils of war, do not break your covenant, do not mutilate (bodies by cutting off limbs to disfigure them), and do not kill any child. And when you meet your enemies among the polytheists, invite them to three things; whichever of them they accept, accept it from them and refrain (from fighting) them: first, invite them to Islam; if they accept, accept it from them and do not fight them. Then invite them to leave their land and emigrate to the land of the Muhajirun, and tell them that if they do so, they will have the same rights as the Muhajirun and the same obligations as the Muhajirun. If they refuse to emigrate, tell them that they will be like the Bedouin Muslims: the same command of Allah that applies to the believers in general will apply to them, but they will receive nothing from the spoils of war (ghanimah) and the fay' unless they wage jihad together with the Muslims. If they refuse (even to accept Islam), then demand the jizyah (tax) from them; if they agree, accept it from them and refrain from fighting. But if they refuse that as well, then seek the help of Allah and fight them. And when you besiege the people of a fortress and they want you to grant them the protection (covenant and security) of Allah and of His Prophet, do not by any means grant them the protection of Allah and of His Prophet; rather, grant them your own protection and that of your companions, for if the protection given by you or your companions is broken, that is far lighter than your breaking the covenant of Allah and His Messenger. And when you besiege a fortress and they want you to bring them down on the judgement of Allah, do not bring them down on the judgement of Allah, but bring them down on your own judgement, for you do not know whether you will arrive at Allah's (intended) judgement concerning them or not."
