«اعرف عددها ووعاءها ووكاءها ثم عرفها سنة فإن جاء صاحبها وإلا فهي كسبيل مالك»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take careful note of the number of it (the lost item), its container (or pouch) and the string used to tie it, then announce it (publicly) for one year. If its owner comes (then return it to him); otherwise it will be like your own property."
