Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was sent only so that I may perfect good character."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has sent me with the completion of noble character and the perfection of excellent deeds."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Ibrahim al-Qurashi, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Noble character is among the deeds of Paradise." Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, within a hadith that has already passed in the chapter on hospitality.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty is Beautiful and He loves beauty; He loves lofty character and He dislikes base character."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty is Generous and He loves the generous; He loves lofty matters and dislikes base ones."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat with similar wording, except that he narrated these words: "He loves lofty character." The narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Imam Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty loves lofty and noble matters, and dislikes the base among them (matters)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Khalid bin Ilyas, whom Ahmad, Yahya bin Ma'in, al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Then I met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I took hold of his hand (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me about the most virtuous deeds!" So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Uqbah! Whoever cuts you off, keep ties with him; whoever deprives you, give to him; and whoever wrongs you, turn away from him."
In one narration the words are: "Whoever wrongs you, forgive him."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; of Ahmad's two chains, the narrators of one are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Shall I not guide you to the noblest character of this world and the Hereafter? It is that you keep ties with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who deprives you, and forgive the one who wrongs you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, al-Harith, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not guide you to the best character of this world and the Hereafter? It is the one who keeps ties with the person who cuts him off, overlooks the one who wrongs him, and gives to the one who deprives him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Jabir al-Suhaymi, who is matruk (abandoned). He also recorded it as a mursal narration, and its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The most virtuous deed is that you keep ties with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who deprives you, and overlook the one who reviles you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Zabban bin Fa'id, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not guide you to that by which Allah Almighty raises ranks?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be forbearing towards the one who behaves ignorantly against you, forgive the one who wrongs you, give to the one who deprives you, and keep ties with the one who cuts you off."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Yusuf bin Khalid al-Samti, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not inform you of the things by which Allah Almighty grants a lofty building and by which He raises ranks?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are that you be forbearing towards the one who behaves ignorantly against you, keep ties with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who deprives you, and overlook the one who wrongs you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Umayyah bin Ya'la, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever would like to be given a lofty building (in Paradise) and to have his ranks raised, let him overlook the one who has wronged him, give to the one who has deprived him, and keep ties with the one who cuts him off."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Umayyah bin Ya'la, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has three things in him, Allah Almighty will take an easy reckoning from him and will admit him into Paradise by His mercy." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, what are they?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you give to the one who deprives you, keep ties with the one who cuts you off, and overlook the one who wrongs you." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Prophet of Allah! When I do this, what will I get?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you do so, Allah Almighty will admit you into Paradise."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Dawud al-Yamami, who is da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Once a man reviled Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting there. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was amazed and began to smile. When the man increased in reviling Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) answered back some of what he said, whereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and stood up. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah! That man was reviling me while you remained seated, but when I answered one of his remarks, you became angry and stood up?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There was an angel with you who was answering on your behalf; when you answered his remark, Satan came in between, and I could not sit with Satan." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! There are three things, all of which are true: whenever a servant is wronged in some way and he leaves it to Allah, Allah Almighty, because of it, honours that person with His help; whenever a person opens a door of giving, intending by it to keep ties of kinship, Allah Almighty increases his wealth because of it; and whenever a person opens a door of begging, intending by it to increase his wealth, Allah Almighty, because of it, increases his scarcity." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded this narration only up to the words: "I could not sit with Satan."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat with similar wording; the narrators of Ahmad's narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zuhayr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought me and began praising me before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Do not tell me about him! He was my companion in the time of ignorance (Jahiliyyah)." The narrator says: He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah! You were an excellent companion." The narrator says: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Sa'ib! Look to the good character you used to practise in the time of ignorance, and keep practising it in Islam: show hospitality to the guest, honour the orphan, and treat your neighbour well." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not have one of three things in him will not reap anything from his deeds: piety that keeps him away from disobeying Allah Almighty, or forbearance with which he restrains a foolish person, or good character with which he lives among people." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "Whoever has one of three things in him, Allah Almighty will marry him to one of the wide-eyed maidens (hur al-'in): whoever has a hidden trust that he craves and returns it out of fear of Allah Almighty; or one who forgives his killer (forgoing retaliation); or one who recites Surah al-Ikhlas after every prayer."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Irq, and al-Dhahabi declared him da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever forgives despite having the power (to take revenge), Allah Almighty will pardon him on the Day of Hardship."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Ala' bin Kathir, who is da'if (weak).
