وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَرِيمٌ يُحِبُّ الْكُرَمَاءَ ، وَيُحِبُّ مَعَالِيَ الْأُمُورِ ، وَيَكْرَهُ سَفْسَافَهَا " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ بِنَحْوِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " يُحِبُّ مَعَالِيَ الْأَخْلَاقِ " . وَرِجَالُ الْكَبِيرِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty is Generous and He loves the generous; He loves lofty matters and dislikes base ones."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat with similar wording, except that he narrated these words: "He loves lofty character." The narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are thiqat (trustworthy).
