Majma al-Zawaid 13694 — Noble character and pardoning one who wrongs
وَعَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَا يَرْفَعُ اللَّهُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ ؟ " . قَالُوا : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " تَحْلُمُ عَنْ مَنْ جَهِلَ عَلَيْكَ ، وَتَعْفُو عَنْ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ ، وَتُعْطِي مَنْ حَرَمَكَ ، وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ " . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ يُوسُفُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ السَّمْتِيُّ وَهُوَ كَذَّابٌ .
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not guide you to that by which Allah Almighty raises ranks?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be forbearing towards the one who behaves ignorantly against you, forgive the one who wrongs you, give to the one who deprives you, and keep ties with the one who cuts you off."
