In one narration the words are: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us while we were in our garden. We had birds with us at which we had begun to take aim. He shouted at us and drove us aside, and said: "Do you people not know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has made the hunting of its game unlawful?"
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. The narrator Shurahbil was declared thiqah (trustworthy) by Ibn Hibban, while others declared him da'if (weak).
