Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he was suffering from sleeplessness, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you words which, when you say them, you will fall asleep? Recite:
'Allahumma rabbas-samawatis-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa rabbal-aradina wa ma aqallat, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adallat, kun li jaran min sharri khalqika ajma'in, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw yatgha, 'azza jaruka, wa tabaraka ismuk' (O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and whatever they shade, Lord of the earths and whatever they carry, Lord of the devils and whomever they lead astray: be my Protector from the evil of all Your creation, lest any one of them act excessively against me or transgress (that is, keep me safe from their transgression and excess). Mighty is the one You protect, and blessed is Your name.)"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Abd al-Rahman bin Sabit did not hear from Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him).

Al-Tabarani recorded this report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir with a weak chain in similar words, but he recorded these words:
'Kun li jaran min jami'il-jinni wal-ins, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum, wa an la yu'dhiyani, 'azza jaruka, wa jalla thana'uka, wa la ilaha ghayruk' (Be my Protector from all the jinn and mankind, lest any one of them act excessively against me or cause me any harm. Your protection is mighty, Your praise is exalted, and there is no god other than You.)

Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to wake up at night in fright, take hold of my sword, and strike with the sword whatever came before me. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you the words which the Trustworthy Spirit (Ruh al-Amin) taught me?" I said: "Yes, indeed!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite:
'A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammah allati la yujawizuhunna barrun wa la fajir, min sharri ma yanzilu min as-sama'i wa ma ya'ruju fiha, wa min sharri fitan al-layli wan-nahar, wa min kulli tariqin illa tariqan yatruqu bi-khayr, ya Rahman' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah, which no righteous or wicked person can go beyond, from the evil of whatever descends from the sky and whatever ascends to it, from the evil of the trials of the night and the day, and from everything that comes by night, except one who comes bringing good, O Most Merciful!)"
When Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) began reciting these words, his distress went away.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Zakariyya bin Yahya bin Ayyub al-Darir al-Mada'ini, whom I do not know; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the frightening dreams he used to see at night, and those dreams would come between him and the (voluntary) night prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Khalid bin al-Walid, shall I not teach you words which you should recite? If you recite them three times, Allah Almighty will remove this thing from you." Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes, indeed! O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, I complained of this to you only in the hope that I would find some solution for it from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite:

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: After a few days had passed, Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! By the One who sent you with the truth, I had not yet recited the words you taught me three times when Allah Almighty removed from me what I used to experience. Now I would not even care if I entered a lion's den at night."

Abu al-Tayyah narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Hunaysh al-Tamimi (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did you live in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He was an elderly man. He replied: "Yes." Abu al-Tayyah asked: "When the devils tried to harm the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), what did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do that night?" He said: "That night the devils came down from various valleys and mountain passes towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Among them was a devil with a flame of fire in his hand, wanting to burn the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with that fire. Then Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) descended, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: 'O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), recite!' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: 'What shall I recite?' He said: 'Recite:

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of a feeling of loneliness and dread, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite:
'Subhanal-malikil-quddus, rabbil-mala'ikati war-ruh, jallalta as-samawati wal-arda bil-'izzati wal-jabarut' (Free from every imperfection is the One who is the King, the Most Holy; He is the Lord of the angels and of the Trustworthy Spirit (Ruh al-Amin). You have overwhelmed the heavens and the earth with might and power.)"
That man recited these words, and Allah Almighty removed his loneliness and dread.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Muhammad bin Aban al-Ju'fi, who is da'if (weak).
