Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: Does your Lord also dye (give colour)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! A dye that does not fade: red, yellow and white.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who had become confused (ikhtalat) in his memory.

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have his upper wrap and lower garment dyed with saffron or wars, and then he would go out wearing them.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a narration of Rakih bin Abi Ubaydah from his father. Ibn Hibban mentioned Rakih in his book al-Thiqat and mentioned this hadith in his biography; I do not know whether he judged it to be sahih or not. He did not address the rest of its narrators. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for Makkah to perform Hajj. The wife of Muhammad bin Ja'far bin Abi Talib came to him (that is, to Muhammad bin Ja'far), and he spent the night with his wife until, when morning came, the scent of perfume was rising from his body, and he had wrapped himself in a safflower-dyed (mu'asfar) cloth that was deeply dyed (mufaddam). He found the people at Malal before they had set off. When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, he rebuked him and said "uff" to him, and said: Are you wearing safflower-dyed clothing, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden it? Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: The Messenger of Allah did not forbid him or you from it; he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from it.
Ahmad recorded it, and Abu Ya'la in al-Kabir; al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form. Its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Mawhab, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy) according to one report, though he has also been declared da'if (weak).

He would wear it when going around to his wives. If it was the turn of a particular wife for him to stay with her, he would sprinkle water on that cloth, and if it was the turn of another wife, she would sprinkle water on it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Mu'ammal bin Isma'il, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak).

Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ayyub bin Suwayd; Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Kitab al-Thiqat and stated that his hadith are to be avoided when they are narrated from him by his son Muhammad. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: this is not among what his son narrated. (That is,
this report is not transmitted from his son.) However, the majority have declared this narrator da'if (weak), and the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
