Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Hasanah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were travelling with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: We camped at a place where there were very many lizards (dabb). The narrator says: We caught them and slaughtered them. The narrator says: While they were cooking in the pots, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and said: "A nation of the Children of Israel went missing, and I fear that it may be these; so overturn these pots!" (The narrator says:) So we overturned them, even though we were hungry.

He said: "A group of the Children of Israel was transformed, and I do not know into which animal's form they were transformed."
Ahmad recorded it through Husayn bin Qabisah, from a man, from Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). He also recorded it through various routes from the narrator Husayn, from Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it likewise, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

He asked: "Are you letting him do this to your flesh?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Cupping is the best of all the methods with which you treat yourselves."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the narrators of al-Bazzar are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him for a ruling about the lizard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I neither command it nor forbid anyone from it, except that we, the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), will not eat it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and al-Bazzar; its chain contains Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Habib, and I do not know him.
It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he was asked about the lizard, and he said: "Ever since the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said something about it, my state has been that we have refrained from eating it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).
Sayyiduna Abu Maryam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the lizard.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Isma'il bin Ayyash, who is da'if (weak) when narrating from the people of the Hijaz.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A lizard was eaten in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found it distasteful, and whatever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found distasteful, we also find distasteful.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Muhammad bin Ishaq, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).
Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the honoured wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: My sister Umm Hufaydah gave me some lizards as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned after the Isha prayer, and with him was Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the nephew of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). I presented the lizard meat to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He stretched out his hand, thinking that it might be chicken. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you know what this is?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then he withheld his hand. I said: "This is lizard." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the food of the Bedouins." Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Is it unlawful?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." So Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) ate of its meat in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching.

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A lizard was given to her as a gift. Two men of her people came to her. On the instruction of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), its meat was prepared, and then Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) placed that meat before the two men. Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived while the two men were eating. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) welcomed them both, then he too began to join in the meal. When he brought a morsel towards his mouth, he asked: "What is this?" Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "It is lizard, which was given to us as a gift." Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put the morsel down. The two men intended to take out what was in their mouths as well, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do that. You people, the people of Najd, eat it, while we, the people of Tihamah, do not eat it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, who is among those whose hadith is written down despite their weakness.
Imam al-Sha'bi narrates: I sat with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) for two years (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:) a year and a half, and I never heard him narrate any hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except that once he narrated this hadith from one of the honoured wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): A lizard was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Eat it; there is no harm in it, but it is not the food of my people."

The man said: "Do you eat it?" Abd al-Rahman said: "Who has declared it unlawful? I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) say: 'One who declares the lawful unlawful is like one who declares the unlawful lawful.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
