Sayyiduna Abu Dawud al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him), who had the honour of taking part in the Battle of Badr, narrates: We set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque of Dhu al-Hulayfah and prayed four rak'ahs in it. Then he recited the talbiyah in the mosque, and the people who were in the mosque heard him, so they said: "He began the talbiyah from the mosque." Then, when he mounted his riding camel, he recited the talbiyah, and the people who were near the mosque said: "He recited the talbiyah when his mount rose up with him." Then, when he came up onto the open plain (al-Bayda'), he recited the talbiyah, and the people who were there heard him and said that he began the talbiyah from the plain. All of them spoke the truth.

When we came down from the hillock into the valley, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) performed the ritual bath (ghusl) and prayed two rak'ahs; we too performed the ritual bath with him and prayed two rak'ahs. Sayyiduna Amr bin Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I remember that in the days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah), when we performed Hajj of the House, we used to recite: "Here is the tribe of Zubayd, which has come to You under compulsion; it has come warily, looking askance; they have crossed barren plains and rugged mountains in fear, and they have left behind idols that are abandoned and empty (forsaken)." And today we recite what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us: "Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk, inna al-hamda wa al-ni'mata laka wa al-mulk, la sharika lak (Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise and blessings are Yours, and the dominion too; You have no partner)."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; however, he narrated these words: I remember that we were from Qarn, and when we came for Hajj we used to say: "Here I am, expressing reverence, and presenting my excuse before You. Here is the tribe of Zubayd, which has come to You under compulsion; they have crossed barren plains and rugged mountains in alarm, and they have left the idols behind in such a state that they remain abandoned and forsaken." And I remember that we used to halt in the low ground of the valley of Muhassir, fearing that the jinn might snatch us away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Move up away from the low ground of Uranah, for when they (the jinn) accept Islam, they are your brothers." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also taught us the talbiyah. Then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. Its chain contains a narrator, Sharqi bin Qutami, who is da'if (weak). In al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, al-Tabarani recorded these additional words: "In the days of Ignorance we used to prevent people from standing (wuquf), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to stand between them and Uranah, for on the evening of Arafah their place of standing used to be the low ground of the valley of Muhassir, out of fear that the jinn might snatch them away.
