Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever intends to fast should take the pre-dawn meal (suhur), even with something."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil; his hadith is hasan (good), and there has been criticism of this narrator.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Eating the pre-dawn meal (suhur) is a blessing, so do not abandon it, even if one of you only takes a sip of water. Indeed, Allah Almighty and His angels send mercy upon those who take the pre-dawn meal."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Abu Rifa'ah; I have not found anyone who declared him trustworthy or criticised him. The rest of the narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

One of the Companions narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for mercy for those who take the pre-dawn meal (suhur).
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Salih, whom Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth declared thiqah (trustworthy), while the Imams declared him da'if (weak).

Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Ismah, who narrates from Abu al-Sabbah, and both of these narrators are majhul (unknown).

Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Layla and Atiyyah; there has been criticism of both of them, and the hadith of both of them is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sent for me and invited me to the pre-dawn meal (suhur). He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named it 'the blessed breakfast'."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Ibrahim, the brother of Abu Ma'mar; he is Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Ma'mar bin al-Hasan Abu Bakr al-Hudhali. Musa bin Harun al-Hammal said: "He is saduq (truthful); there is no harm in him." Yahya bin Ma'in was asked about Abu Ma'mar and he said: "Someone like Abu Ma'mar is not to be asked about; he and his brother are among the people of hadith." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) The rest of the narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Abu Abdullah al-Basri; al-Dhahabi said: "He is not known." The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) will come in the chapter on foods, in the section on tharid, if Allah wills.
