Shu'bah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates with his chain: "Five are to be killed outside and inside the sanctuary: the snake, the scorpion," and then he mentioned the rest.
It seems that the narration of Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi is more correct, because it agrees with the other narrations from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her); and Ibn al-Musayyib narrated the hadith about the snake and the wolf only as mursal, and that will come, if Allah wills.

Abu Ubayd said concerning "the biting dog (al-kalb al-'aqur)" that Sufyan bin Uyaynah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "It means every predatory animal that bites; it is not restricted to the dog."
(b) Abu Ubayd said: In speech, a predatory animal may also be called a dog, as is narrated in the Maghazi that Utbah bin Abi Lahab used to harm the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) severely, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: "O Allah, set upon him one of Your dogs." Then Utbah went out to Syria with his companions and camped at a place; a lion came upon them and killed Utbah from among them. So here the lion has been given the name "dog". And from this too is the saying of Allah Almighty: "And what you have taught of hunting animals, training them as dogs." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 4] This name is also derived from "kalb" (dog), and then the hunting of the cheetah, the falcon and the hawk entered into it; for this reason every wounding and biting predatory animal is called "kalb 'aqur" (a biting dog).
(c) Suwayd bin Ghafalah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered us to kill the scorpion, the snake, the mouse and the hornet even while we were in the state of ihram.
