It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he led the people in prayer and recited these verses in it: "Alif Lam Mim. Allah - there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence" [Surah Al Imran: 1 - 2]. Imam Abu Ubayd said: According to the reciters of Makkah and Madinah, the scholars of Kufah and Basrah, and the experts in recitation of Syria and Egypt, all of them, the word is read as "al-Qayyum", and to my knowledge there is no disagreement among them in the recitation of this word. With us too this is the correct recitation, because it fully agrees with the script of the Qur'an and the consensus of the Ummah, even though other readings of it are possible in terms of the Arabic language.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Batha when a cloud passed by. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what this is?" We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a cloud (al-sahab)." We said: A cloud. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And it is al-muzn (a rain cloud)." We said: Al-muzn. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And it is al-'anan (a high cloud)." We said: Al-'anan. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) fell silent, and then said: "Do you know how far it is between the heaven and the earth?" We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Between them is a distance of five hundred years' journey, and from each heaven to the next is a journey of five hundred years, and the thickness of each heaven is a journey of five hundred years. Above the seventh heaven is a sea, between whose top and bottom is as much as between the heaven and the earth. Then above that are eight mountain goats (angels in that form), between whose knees and hooves is as much as between the heaven and the earth.
