Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3175

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "In it are verses that are precise (muhkamat)" [Surah Al Imran: 7]; he said: They are the verses in Surah al-An'am: "Say: Come, I will recite to you what your Lord has forbidden to you: that you do not associate anything with Him" [Surah al-An'am: 151], to the end of those three verses.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain has some weakness (lin) on account of the narrator from Ibn 'Abbas.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement over it from Abu Ishaq ('Amr bin Abd Allah al-Sabi'i) as to whether this narrator is Abd Allah bin Qays (as in the narration of 'Ali bin Salih and others from him) or Abd Allah bin Khalifah (as in the narration of Isra'il from him, which will come with the author under no. 3277). Whether it is this one or that one, this Abd Allah is barely known, and he was not corroborated in this narration of his. Ibn Hibban raised the possibility in his "al-Thiqat" 5/42 that he is Abd Allah bin Qays al-Nakha'i, who narrated from al-Harith bin Uqaysh and from whom Dawud bin Abi Hind narrated.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it in his "Tafsir" 5/1414, and al-Khatib in "al-Faqih wa al-Mutafaqqih" (201), via Waki', from 'Ali bin Salih, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Sa'id bin Mansur recorded it in the Tafsir section of his "Sunan" (493) from Hudayj bin Mu'awiyah, and Ibn Abi Hatim 2/592 via Qays bin al-Rabi', both from Abu Ishaq, with the same chain,
Technical note / Defect ('illah): except that Qays said in it: "from Abd Allah bin so-and-so", without naming his lineage, and there is weakness in Qays.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in 3/172, and Ibn Abi Hatim in 2/592, via Hushaym, from al-'Awwam bin Hawshab, from someone who narrated it to him from Ibn 'Abbas (an unnamed narrator); he mentioned it and added at its end: "and the one in Bani Isra'il: ﴿وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ …﴾ [And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him …]" up to three verses after it [al-Isra': 23-25].
