And which deed is most beloved to Allah? The woman went and told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, with anger recognisable on his face, until he stood before the people and said: "What are these words that reach me from certain people? Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, created seven heavens and seven earths; He chose the highest of them and took it as His abode, and He settled in His heavens whomever He willed of His creation. And He created seven earths, and chose the highest of them and settled in it whomever He willed of His creation. And He created the creation, and from the creation He chose the children of Adam; from the children of Adam He chose the Arabs; from the Arabs He chose Mudar; from Mudar He chose Quraysh; from Quraysh He chose Banu Hashim; and from Banu Hashim He chose me. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wants to raise up every horseman son of a horseman and to bring down every shepherd son of a shepherd. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the collar of his cloak and said: "Upon him is the clothing of one who has no sense." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When death came to the Prophet of Allah Nuh (peace be upon him), he said to his son: 'O my son, I am giving you a bequest, I am laying the bequest before you: I command you to do two things and forbid you from two things. I command you to say La ilaha illallah, for if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed in one pan of the scale and La ilaha illallah in the other, it would outweigh them; and if the seven heavens and the seven earths were a closed ring, La ilaha illallah would crush them. And I enjoin you to say Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him), for it is the prayer of the creation, and through it the creation is given provision. And I forbid you from disbelief and arrogance.'" Upon this a man said: O Messenger of Allah, disbelief we have come to know, but what is arrogance? Is it that a man has two fine sandals that he wears, and fine straps that please him? He said: "No." He said: Then is it that he has a fine suit of clothes that he wears? He said: "No." He said: Then is it that he has a beautiful horse whose beauty pleases him? He said: "No." He said: Then is it that he has companions who sit with him? He said: "No." He said: Then what is arrogance? He said: "To belittle the truth and to look down on people."
