When he finds relief, he will look at the tree of Paradise and say: O Lord, (bring me there). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and the people said: "Let us halt for the night." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will wake us?" I said: "I will keep watch and wake you all." Then I fell asleep and they slept too, and we did not wake until the heat of the sun was upon our heads. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the last of us to wake; he (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people stood up and performed ablution, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led two rak'ahs, and then he prayed the Fajr prayer.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Hunayn. The people turned their backs and left him (peace and blessings be upon him), and I remained with him (peace and blessings be upon him) among eighty (80) men of the Muhajirun and the Ansar. We stepped back on our heels about eighty paces, but we did not turn our backs to them, and these are the ones upon whom Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, sent down tranquillity (sakinah). He said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was pressing straight ahead on his mule; then his (peace and blessings be upon him) mule shied and he leaned somewhat from the saddle. I rushed towards him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Rise up, may Allah raise you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hand me a fistful of dust." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) threw it at their (the enemy's) faces, and their eyes were filled with dust. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where are the Muhajirun and the Ansar?" I said: "They are right here." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call out to them." So I called out to them, and they came with their swords in their hands like shooting stars, and the polytheists turned their backs and fled.

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Friendship for the sake of Allah, love for the sake of Allah, and hatred for the sake of Allah."
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Mas'ud!" I said: "Here I am, O Messenger of Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is the best of the believers?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When they know their religion, the one among them who is best in deeds."
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Mas'ud! Do you know who is the most knowledgeable of the believers?" I said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When they differ - and he (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced his fingers - the one among them with the clearest insight into the truth, even if he falls short in his deeds, and even if he has to crawl along."
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Mas'ud! Do you know that the Children of Israel split into seventy-two (72) sects, of which only three sects were saved? One sect lived among the kings and tyrants and kept calling to the religion of Isa (Jesus) (peace be upon him); they were seized, sawn apart with saws and burned with fire, but they remained patient until they met Allah. Then another group rose up who had no strength (to resist) and were unable to stand up for justice, so they went off to the mountains and took to worship and monasticism; they are the ones whom Allah Almighty mentioned when He said: 'And monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them, except (that they did it) seeking the pleasure of Allah' [Surah al-Hadid: 27] up to 'and many of them are disobedient' [Surah al-Hadid: 16]. And one sect of them believed; they are the ones who believed and affirmed my truthfulness, and they are the ones who observed it (monasticism) as it ought to be observed. 'And many of them are disobedient': they are the ones who did not believe in me and did not affirm my truthfulness, nor did they observe it as it ought to be observed, and they are the ones whom Allah declared disobedient."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by (somewhere), and the people began saying: "This is the Messenger of Allah." A Jew said: "If he (truly) is the Messenger of Allah, I will ask him about something; if he is a Prophet, he will know it." So he said: "O Abu al-Qasim, tell me: is a human being created from the man's fluid or from the woman's fluid?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The man's fluid is white and thick, and from it come the bones and the sinews; and the woman's fluid is yellow and thin, and from it come the blood and the flesh."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Children of Israel appointed a caliph over themselves. (One night) he stood praying in the moonlight on top of Bayt al-Maqdis, and he remembered certain things he had done, so he lowered himself down by a rope. In the morning the rope was hanging from the mosque and he was gone. He went on until he came to some people on the seashore, and he saw them making mud bricks. He asked them: 'How do you get (paid) for these bricks?' They told him, so he made bricks with them. He would eat from the earnings of his own hands, and when the time of prayer came he would purify himself and pray. That labourer reported this to their dihqan (chief) and said: 'There is a man among us who does such and such.' He (the dihqan) sent for him, but he refused to come to him. Then he (the dihqan) came riding on his mount, and when he saw him he ran away. He chased him and overtook him, and said: 'Give me time to say a word to you.' So he stood still until he had spoken to him, and he told him that he had been a king and had fled out of fear of his sin. He said: 'I too will join you in this.' So the two of them worshipped Allah, and they asked Allah to cause them both to die together, and they both died." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If I were in Rumaylah of Egypt, I would show you their graves," as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) described it.
