If this matter that I intend is good for my religion and for the outcome of my affairs, then make it easy for me; and if something other than it is better for me, then decree good for me wherever it may be.' Then he said: I am the fourth of four, and the fourth of four is not far from Allah.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Khaybar. He (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to relieve himself, and whenever he (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to do so, he would go so far away that no one could see him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Abdullah, look, can you see anything?" I looked and saw a single tree, and I told him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "Look, can you see anything else?" I looked and saw another tree that was far from the first, and I told him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "Say to them both: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to come together." I said that to them, and they came together. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them and took cover behind them (to relieve himself); then he stood up, and each tree went back to its place.
Then in that campaign the people were struck by severe thirst, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Abdullah, look for water for me." I brought a little leftover water that I had found in a vessel. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took it and poured it into a vessel, then put his hand in it and said Bismillah, and the water began to flow from between his (peace and blessings be upon him) fingers. The people drank and performed ablution as much as Allah willed. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: This is blessed, so I began to drink from it more and more, seeking its blessing.
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned towards Madinah, and a camel came before him (peace and blessings be upon him) with tears flowing from its eyes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Whose camel is this?" The people said: It belongs to such-and-such tribe. He said: "It has sought refuge with me." The narrator said: They wanted to slaughter it; they had worked it until it became old and covered with sores. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not slaughter it, and treat it well."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The two sons of Mulaykah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, our mother used to honour her husband, was kind to her children, and also took care of guests, but in the time of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) she had buried (a daughter) alive. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your mother is in the Fire." Hearing this, the two of them turned their backs and left, with signs of grief clearly visible on their faces. He (peace and blessings be upon him) had them called back, and they returned (in the hope that something new might have happened) with signs of joy on their faces. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My mother is also with your mother (that is, she too is in Hell)."
At this a man from the hypocrites said: What has it profited him to speak about his mother, when we follow in his footsteps? Then a man from the Ansar - and I have never seen a man who asked more questions than him - said: O Messenger of Allah, has your Lord made any promise concerning her or concerning them both (the two mothers)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you think that something (of the kind) has happened?" (Then) he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have not asked my Lord (for anything in intercession for my mother), and indeed on the Day of Resurrection I will stand in the Praised Station (al-Maqam al-Mahmud)." The Ansari said: O Messenger of Allah, what is that Praised Station? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That will be when you are brought barefoot and naked, and the first to be clothed will be Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He will say: Clothe my Khalil (intimate friend). So two white garments will be brought and he will be clothed in them, then he will sit facing the Throne. Then my clothing will be brought and I will put it on, then I will stand at his right side in a station where no one other than me will stand; the first and the last will all envy me for it. And my river, al-Kawthar, will be opened to the Pond."
At this a man from the hypocrites said: Whatever (river) flows, flows only over mud or pebbles. (The Ansari) said: O Messenger of Allah, what will its mud and pebbles be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its mud will be musk and its pebbles will be pearls." The hypocrite said: I have never heard anything like today! Any water that flows over mud or pebbles always has some vegetation. The Ansari said: O Messenger of Allah, will it have any vegetation? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, branches of gold." The hypocrite said: I have never heard anything like today; no branch grows without leaves and fruit. The Ansari said: O Messenger of Allah, will it have any fruit? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, jewels of every colour, and its water will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks a single draught from it will never be thirsty, and whoever is deprived of it will never have his thirst quenched."
(The narrator says:) This hadith was also narrated by al-Sa'iq bin Hazn from Ali bin al-Hakam, but he differed from Sa'id bin Zayd in its chain.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a naked woman came along. This was hard on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) closed his eyes. Then a man from among the people went to her, threw a garment over her and wrapped her to himself. Some of his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, I think she is his wife. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I think she is overcome by jealousy (over a co-wife)? Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has prescribed jealousy for women and jihad for men; so whichever of them is patient out of faith and in hope of reward will have a reward like that of the martyrs."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that whenever the young men of his household passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), his colour would change. One day some young men of his household passed by him (peace and blessings be upon him), and at this the colour of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed. We said: O Messenger of Allah, we keep seeing something in you that is hard on us: the young men of your household pass by you and your colour changes because of it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, for these people of my household Allah has chosen the Hereafter, and He has not chosen this world for them."

My Ummah are those who praise much: they tie their lower garments to the middle of their shins and illuminate their limbs (with ablution). Their Gospels are preserved in their breasts.
