Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to my people. I reached them in a state of hunger, and found them eating blood. I said: I have come only to forbid you from this. Then I laid down my head (to sleep), and I stood up in a state of weakness. Then someone came to me in my dream with a vessel containing a drink, and said: Take this and drink. Then my stomach became full and I was satiated, then my thirst was quenched. Then I heard them saying: A man from among the chiefs of your people came to you, and you did not even offer him hospitality with (watered-down) milk. So they brought me their thin milk, and I said: I have no need of it; Allah has fed me and given me drink. And I showed them my stomach, and they all, to the last of them, accepted Islam.

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to my people to call them to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and to present the laws of Islam to them. So I came to them, and they had watered their camels, milked them and drunk. When they saw me they said: Welcome to Sudayy bin Ajlan. They said: We have heard that you have inclined towards this man. I said: "No; rather, I have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent me to you so that I may present Islam and its laws to you." While we were in this state, they brought a bowl of blood, set it down and gathered around it, eating, and said: Come, O Sudayy. I said: Woe to you! I have come to you from the one who has forbidden this to you by what Allah has revealed to him. They said: And what did he say? I said: This verse was revealed: "Forbidden to you are dead animals, blood and the flesh of swine" [Al-Ma'idah: 3], up to "and that you seek decisions through divining arrows (this too is forbidden)" [Al-Ma'idah: 3]. I kept calling them to Islam but they kept refusing, so I said to them: "Woe to you, bring me some water, for I am extremely thirsty." He said: My turban was on my head. They said: No; rather, we will let you die of thirst. He said: "So I wrapped my turban and covered my head in it, and slept on the scorching sand in intense heat. Then someone came to me in my dream with a glass cup more beautiful than anything people had ever seen, and in it was a drink more delicious than anything people had ever tasted. He handed it to me and I drank it. When I finished my drink I woke up, and by Allah, I did not feel thirsty, and after that drink I never again felt thirst."
