Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8069 — Sayyiduna Ali said to the Messenger

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا لَيْثُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْعُكْلِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ، قَالَا: ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا: قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ادْفَعْ إِلَيَّ خَادِمًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «فِي الْبَيْتِ ثَلَاثَةٌ اخْتَرْ مِنْهُمْ وَاحِدًا» . فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اخْتَرْ لِي أَنْتَ، فَقَالَ: «خُذْ هَذَا الْغُلَامَ، فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ صَلَّى مُنْذُ خَرَجْنَا مُنْذُ حِينٍ وَلَا تَضْرِبْهُ، فَإِنَّا نُهِينَا عَنْ ضَرْبِ أَهْلِ الصَّلَاةِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Give me a servant. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three slaves in the house; choose one of them." He said: O Messenger of Allah, you choose for me yourself. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this slave, for I have seen him praying ever since we set out; and do not beat him, for we have been forbidden to beat those who pray."
