Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we would feel in our hearts what we loved, and when we went back to our families and mingled with them, we would find the state of our hearts changed." They mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If the state you are in when you are with me remained the same in solitude (that is, away from me), the angels would shake hands with you with their wings. But there is a time and a time (the state differs from time to time)."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Zuhayr bin Muhammad al-Razi, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and his wording is: "The angels would shake hands with you and shade you with their wings, visibly."
