Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to the people of the Suffah, whose voices had risen and who were laughing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry at this and said: "You were not created for laughter." He (peace and blessings be upon him) reproached them for it. Then Sayyiduna Jibril came to him from Allah Almighty and said: "Allah Almighty commands you to make things easy and not make them hard, and to give glad tidings and not drive people away." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to those people, gave them glad tidings, made things easy for them, and met them cheerfully.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abd al-Aziz bin Yahya al-Madani, who is a kadhdhab (liar).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people who were laughing, and he said: "You are laughing, while Paradise and Hell are mentioned before you?" The narrator says: After that, none of those people was ever seen laughing until they died. The narrator says: This verse was revealed: "Inform My servants that indeed I am the Forgiving, the Merciful, and that My punishment is the painful punishment."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, who is da'if (weak).

Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami narrates: I entered the mosque, and the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), was on the pulpit saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty revealed to one of the prophets of the Children of Israel: 'Say to those of your Ummah who obey Me that they should not rely on their deeds, for there is no one whom I hold to a full account at the Reckoning on the Day of Resurrection and then will to punish, except that I punish him. And say to the sinners of your Ummah that they should not cast themselves into ruin (through despair), for I forgive the gravest sins and I do not mind. There is no inhabitant of any town, city or land, nor any particular man or woman, who is with Me upon what I love, so that I am for him upon what he loves, and who then turns from what I love to what I dislike, except that I turn for him from what he loves to what he dislikes. And there is no inhabitant of any town or city, nor any particular man or woman, who does what I dislike and then turns from it to doing what I love, except that I turn for him from what he dislikes to what he loves. He has nothing to do with Me who takes omens or has omens taken for him, or who practises soothsaying or has soothsaying done for him, or who practises magic or has magic done for him. Indeed, there is only I and My creation, and all My creation belongs to Me.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Isa bin Muslim al-Tuhawi. Abu Zur'ah said: He is layyin (soft, weak). Abu Hatim said: He is not strong; his hadith may be written down. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy), if Allah wills.

Sayyiduna Abu Madinah al-Darimi (may Allah be pleased with him), who had the honour of being a Companion, narrates: When two men from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met each other, they would not part until one of them had recited to the other: "By time! Indeed, mankind is in loss."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Ibn Aishah, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Ibn Sirin from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), report that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the people before you there was a man who had never done any good, except that he held firm to Tawhid (the belief in the Oneness of Allah). When his final hour approached, he said to his family: 'See to it that when I die, you burn me until I become charcoal, then grind me, and then scatter those ashes on a windy day.' When the man died, his family did that with him. When he was brought into the presence of Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty said: 'O son of Adam! Why did you do what you did?' He said: 'O my Lord! Out of fear of You.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So the Lord forgave him because of that (fear), although he had done no good deed other than affirming Tawhid."
Ahmad recorded it. The narrators of the chain of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) are the narrators of the Sahih, and the chain of Ibn Sirin contains a person who is not named. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report has been transmitted from a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them); I have recorded all those reports in the Book of Repentance, in the chapter: One who fears on account of his sin.

Al-Hasan reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a marfu' hadith: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Allah Almighty says:) 'I will not combine two kinds of fear or two kinds of security for My servant. If I make him fearful in this world, I will grant him security in the Hereafter, and if I grant him security in this world, I will make him fearful in the Hereafter.'"

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated something similar from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Bazzar recorded both reports; he recorded them from his teacher Muhammad bin Yahya bin Maymun, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of the mursal report are the narrators of the Sahih, and so are the narrators of the musnad report, except Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqamah, who is hasan al-hadith (good in hadith).
